❄️ Welcome Winter! ❄️

Have you heard of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Organ Clock?

⭐ Identifies optimal times for organ function over a 24-hour cycle (each organ has a two-hour interval when its energy is most abundant and weakest)
⭐ Emphasizes balance and qi (energy) flow throughout the body
⭐ Guides optimal times for eating, sleeping, and exercising
⭐ Connects emotions with specific organs and times of the day

In TCM, the kidneys and bladder have a closely intertwined relationship crucial for maintaining the body's balance and vitality. The kidneys store "jing," an essential energy that underpins various bodily functions, particularly fluid regulation. They manage water metabolism, filter impurities, and direct these fluids to the bladder, responsible for storing and converting them into urine. This process is vital for waste elimination and detoxification.

➡️3-5 PM: Bladder
During this period, the bladder functions energetically at its peak. Consuming water before and during these hours supports optimal bladder function, aiding in efficient urine excretion. If you wake to urinate during the early morning hours of 3-5 AM, it may indicate kidney or bladder weakness, with emotional stress linked to fear as a contributing factor.

➡️5-7 PM: Kidneys
The kidneys impact blood development, respiration, s*x drive, brain and bone health, and aging. This is an ideal time for a light dinner, alongside gentle walking or stretching to enhance circulation, kidney filtration, and digestion. The kidneys are associated with virtues such as wisdom and the ability to handle life's challenges. Participating in calming activities during this time can cultivate these strengths, promoting both emotional and physical well-being.

During the morning from 5-7 AM, when the kidneys are at their weakest, issues like fatigue may be more prevalent. Emphasizing rest and mindful practices at this time can support kidney health, nurturing virtues like wisdom and willpower, and enhancing resilience.

The Winter Solstice ❄️is on December 21st (Sunday) at 10:03am EST. Yin energy is at its peak (before then giving way to the rise of yang energy until the Summer Solstice). Yin and winter represent conserving energy, darkness, stillness, and introspection.

✨Warmth + Spices✨
As cold weather can cause physical contraction (often felt in aching joints), we’re encouraged to seek warmth.
➡️Consuming spices like cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, turmeric and star anise promote circulation and warm the digestive system.

✨Kidneys + Rest✨
In Chinese Medicine, winter’s connected with the kidneys and urinary bladder. These organs represent our baseline, foundational energy (jing) and thrive on rest.
➡️Embrace the natural inclination to slow down and recharge during the coldest season.
➡️Practice qigong to nourish the kidneys. Gently tap on the back where the kidneys are located, softening the shoulders and looking down to alleviate shoulder pressure. This practice is called Knocking on the Door of Life, because the kidneys (along with the spine and brain) are the first to develop in the womb, representing the literal start of your physical existence).

✨Winter, Water, + Wisdom✨
Winter’s also associated with the water element, which represents the disempowering emotions of fear, self-consciousness, and self-doubt, along with the empowering virtues of confidence, wisdom, intuition, and more.
➡️Learning to be still, practice introspection, and listen to your inner self can cultivate wisdom.
➡️Tune into quiet reflection with journaling, meditation, deep breathing, qigong, and other calming practices, tuning into your higher knowing.

✨Medical Qigong
This ancient Chinese system of health care targets the underlying causes of symptoms, illness, and disease by promoting healthy qi (lifeforce energy) flow throughout the body. It’s a “deep energetic surgery,” clearing pain, inflammation, and stress, while improving circulation, vitality, and a general nervous system reset.

If you’re seeking mind, body, and spirit healing, explore how this cathartic practice can help you. Sessions available at 1965 Greenspring Drive, Timonium, MD 21093. https://www.qigonghw.com/medicalqigong

12/18/2025

The vagus nerve is often referred to as your body's "chill pill" because of its incredible ability to help us relax and unwind. It's a major player in the parasympathetic nervous system, which is all about rest and digest. When we take those deep, calming breaths, we're essentially giving the vagus nerve a gentle nudge, encouraging it to do its magic.

🫁 By activating the vagus nerve through deep breathing, we can help lower our heart rate, improve digestion, and bring about a sense of calm. It's like hitting the reset button for our bodies, helping us manage stress and feel more balanced.

🧘Here’s your invitation to take another mindful pause…
* Soften your shoulders.
* Release tension from your face, eyes, jaw, and throat.
* Begin to breathe deeply into your lower belly. Feel the gentle rise on the inhale, and gentle release on the exhale.
* Enjoy several breaths, in this present moment, as a loving nervous system reset.

✨Looking for some gentle movement?
When we wake up, we naturally want to move and stretch. This qigong practice is likely one that you’re already doing to wake up the body, opening the chest to breathe more fully. It’s called Spinal Cord Breathing, and can be done seated or standing.
* Inhale: Bend the elbows (pointed downward), make soft fists (up by your shoulders), bring the shoulder blades together, drop the shoulders, open the chest, look up if comfortable (or head can stay forward).
* Exhale: Round through the back, bring the elbows to the belly, tuck the pelvis, chin to the chest.
* Repeat for several breaths.

Each Yin-Yang organ pairing connects with seasons, elements, colors, sounds, emotions, sense organs, and so on. During autumn, this is an especially great time to focus on our lungs and breathing.

The lungs are special because they’re the only Yin organs that connect to the outside world (through our nose and mouth), making them vulnerable to dust. pollutants, etc.

Breathing is something we do without thinking, but when we pay attention to each inhale and exhale, it helps us to live more fully in the present moment. It’s also one of the quickest and easiest practices to regulate the nervous system.

🫁Let’s take a quick breather...
* How are you breathing right now?
* Where do you feel the breath entering your body?
* Which part of your body expands on the inhale and softens on the exhale?
* How are you feeling as you breathe this way?

I spent years and years in choir constantly hearing, "breathe into your lower belly." For those who attend my qigong classes or workshops, you know that I offer this guidance constantly too! Deep belly breathing, free from rib cage restrictions, lets us take in more oxygen, boosting our mental clarity and relaxation.

Take Control of Your Health & Wellness

Have seen people needlessly suffer - and certainly having experienced it myself - I care deeply about providing opportunities, insight, and knowledge so that others may thrive, instead of just survive.

Over time, we've lost our connection with our internal world, instead focusing so heavily on circumstances and what's going on outside of us. For successful healing to occur, shifting our attention inward is critical. This journey begins with a willingness to look deeper into yourself and what's keeping you stuck. Also, with an openness to experiencing alternative healing methods - ones that have been utilized in China for thousands of years.

We are so powerful in creating our experiences. It's time to take back control of your health and wellness, achieved by learning ways to effectively hone the natural wisdom of your bodies and minds. Are you ready?
