As a past administrator of senior living, I am all too familiar with seniors who have this challenge. In addition, my own mother was hearing impaired and it was very difficult to talk to her on the phone which limited our connections. I live in Toledo and she lived in the Cleveland area. Because of my work schedule I could not get in and see her as often as I would’ve liked. What a difference this phone would’ve made in her life and mine.

That is when when I retired as an administrator and I was given the opportunity to work FT with ClearCaptions I couldn’t turn it down. And I can honestly say I love what I do!

The ClearCaptions Blue phone is pictured below. This allows a person to see what their caller says and never miss a word.  In addition, there is a voicemail in which the messages are captioned as well as increased amplification.

What are the qualifications? The individual must have some degree of hearing impairment in which captioning will be helpful and necessary when using the phone. And they must have an Internet connection. No landline is needed. No doctors order is needed. However, we will send a form to the qualified individual’s physician or hearing specialist.

According to the CDC report in May 2021, 2.2 million emergency room visits were due to falls occurred among adults aged 65 and over. Unintentional falls accounted for over 92% of the selected emergency room visits and hospitalizations. According to a CDC report in 2018 one in four adults aged 65 and over falls, one in five falls results in a serious injury with broken bones or head trauma and 95% of hip fractures are caused by falling.

This month a senior in Maryland was found after 4 days when it was noticed that her mail was piling up and she did not respond to knocks on her door. During this time, she was unable to move, eat, bathe, use the restroom...you can see the devastating scenario. Fortunately, she was rescued. If she hadn't been, the consequences could easily have been fatal.

Just think, if she had a medical alert pendant, she could have had almost immediate assistance with quick interventions and possibly a shorter recuperation time.
