Leroy Mosbey
Leroy Mosbey was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great great-grandfather, uncle and friend. Loving referred to as “MyDaddy/Pops” by his children “Granpa” by his grandchildren and as “Unc” by his many, many nieces and nephews.
Leroy Mosbey was the youngest of eight children born to Sidney Mosby Sr. and Arlean Short Mosby. He is the only one of the eight children with that “ey in Mosby”. Somebody messed up and we will forever have Mosbeys. Leroy was born and raised in New Orleans, La. He graduated from Walter L. Cohen High School. Leroy met and married Rosemarie Jackson Mosby and to that union was born two children, Derrlyn Mosby and Dwayne Mosbey. We are not sure how she got the correct Mosby spelling, but she did. The family relocated to Los Angeles before Dwayne was born. Rosemarie eventually returned to New Orleans.
Later, Leroy met and married the love of his life, Doretha Conant, a union that lasted until her death on April 26, 1999. His children became her children. Leroy loved his family. He was a family man with a strong family bond. His grandchildren share their childhood stories of spending summers with their grandparents. Leroy was close to his extended family. Many of his nieces and nephews were like siblings. He came into this world as an uncle. He was always in attendance at family functions. In fact, most of the friends of his nieces and nephews referred to him as Uncle Leroy.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Arlean Mosby, wife Doretha Mosbey, siblings Ethel Mosby French, Elnora Janette Mosby Wray, Arlean Marinean Mosby McKay, Sidney Mosby Jr., Freddie Mosby, Alvin Mosby, Alton Mosby, nieces and nephews Annie, Charles (Sonny), Freddie Jr., Curtis, Gary, Teresa, Deborah, Cheryl and Sidney III.
He leaves to celebrate his life, daughter, Derrlyn Mosby, son Dwayne (Juanita) Mosbey, grandchildren, Desmond (Soyini), Gia, Dontae, GiAnte’, Pierre (Lyndsey), Guy II (Talissa), DeVon and Dwayne (Tyler), 16 great-grand children , 3 great-great granddaughters, a special friend Beverly Mosley and host of nieces, nephews and friends.
