Sharing my thoughts on weighing oneself on my latest blog post. I'm curious? What is your relationship like with your scale? Is it time to break up?

Many people are surprised to learn that I don’t own a scale. How can I possibly be a health coach and not keep track of my weight? I don’t keep track of my weight. That’s how. This wasn’t always the case, mind you. As a teenager grappling with an eating disorder, I lived and breathed by the ...

Restriction does not equal healthy.

It equals unsustainable.

Healthy habits include giving yourself permission to eat indulgent treats on occasion.

In fact in doing so, you are more likely to continue eating healthy most of the time.

Balance means getting it right most of the time. Not all of the time.

So stop beating yourself up because you ate that warm chocolate chip cookie or cut your workout short.

Keep it in perspective and keep moving forward.

Friends. Good health, losing unwanted pounds and gaining energy starts with food.

There is no other way around it. No quick fix that lasts.

If you want to start seeing noticeable changes to your health you MUST become an avid label reader.

And while the nutrition content is important the most important part in the label is the ingredients list.

So how do you know what should make the cut and find it’s way into your cart?

Look for items that have 10 ingredients or less.

Make sure you can pronounce and recognize them.

See ingredients like “ hydrogenated palm kernel oil” and “natural flavors”?

Put them back.

See ingredients like “cinnamon, sea salt, pumpkin seeds”? In the cart it goes!

Still not convinced? Grab something processed out of your cupboard and google an unrecognizable ingredient. You may be very (unpleasantly) surprised to discover you are eating something that is not recognizable as food!

Making this one simple change can have a dramatic effect on your health, especially your weight and energy levels.

It's been a while since I've written a blog post! Looking forward to sharing how to think about your health and wellness when life gets in the way!

It’s easy to feel on top of your game when life is going your way. But staying on track with your health when life throws you a curveball, can be incredibly difficult. It’s a familiar story to many. Life is cruising along, your routine is dialed in. You are getting in the workouts, making time t...

Time is precious.

Finding time to focus on your health and wellness can easily fall far down on the list of priorities especially when you are in the throws of raising a family.

I have heard this on more than one occasion from clients. There is a lot going on and so they didn't have time to take care of themselves.

It can feel impossible to imagine a healthier life when so much is getting in the way.

So how do you make time for your own health?

You must create space in your life for what it is you want more of.
In order to do that you need to let go of things that don't serve you.

That's it. That's the key.

Now for the the how-to part.

Start by taking an inventory of your time. How are you really spending it? Consider carrying around a notebook for a few days and logging what's filling up your time. Spending a half hour each morning scrolling social media? That's a half hour you could be getting your sweat on.

Taking on all the responsibilities of cooking and cleaning when you have perfectly capable family members living with you? Consider delegating some tasks so you can focus on training for that 5k you've always dreamed of.

Waiting at the park for your kid to get done with soccer practice? Use this as an opportunity to get in a few laps around the field.

We think we have no time do devote to our own needs, but time is really like money. We have to prioritize spending and budget our money to make sure we have what we need and the same holds true for making space for oneself.

The time has always been there. It's really just a matter of getting honest with yourself about how you are spending it and making the commitment to align some of that time with your goals.

Grocery shopping can be a tad overwhelming when it comes to staying healthy. Marketing gimmicks and thousands of tempting choices can make it a challenge.

BUT here's the good news. The choices you make at the grocery store can go a long way in helping you to reach your long term health goals.

Follow these tips to each time you shop to make a big difference in your health.

✅Shop the perimeter of the store.
The majority of fresh, unprocessed foods like produce, dairy and lean meats will be found along the perimeter of the store. Do the majority of your shopping here and you will significantly reduce the amount of ultra processed foods you purchase.

✅Read Labels
Become a voracious label reader. If you must shop in the aisle, this skill will help you to know which items to put in your cart and which are best left on the shelf. Go straight to the ingredients list before anything else. The item should contain no more than 10 ingredients that you can recognize. If you can't pronounce it, put it back.

✅Aim to fill you cart with 80% fresh fruits and vegetables (frozen counts too) and lean meats and 20% packaged foods like pastas, coffee, flours, rice, and minimally processed snacks. Don't forget a one or two indulgent treats. They have a place in a healthy diet!

✅Shop on a full stomach.
Your health and grocery bill will thank you.

✅ Take a list.
Sticking to your list will ensure that you make the best choices for yourself.

Running is by far my favorite type of exercise.

I love the time to myself. Headphones on listening to a favorite podcast while taking in the beauty of my surroundings is the ultimate mood booster.

Running is equal parts challenging and soothing. I never, ever regret lacing up and heading out the door. And this from a girl who has been known to run at 5 a.m. in the dead of winter.

I have been able to maintain my almost daily running habit for over a decade. How?

Because it returns me to myself. It reminds me of who I am. Strong, capable and good enough.

Running has played a huge part in helping me to heal from years of poor body image. How great is that?

When you find an activity that points you in the direction of your healthiest self, you stick with it.

What type of activity leads you to your best self?

If it's not the one you're doing, pick something else.

In a recent conversation with a client the topic of trying to commit to a healthy lifestyle while raising a family and working came up.

It can feel impossible to do it all.

When we place unrealistic expectations on ourselves to do it perfectly, it can easily become too much and we throw in the towel.

But there are ways to make it work!

Today’s video discusses how to handle
overwhelm when trying to prioritize your own health amongst all the demands of life, especially motherhood.
