Just another February day when I one hundred percent don’t need this jacket ☀️

It’s warm, it’s weird, the nettles are peeking their heads above the earth, the birds are chirping spring, they don’t know it’s too soon.

Is it too soon? Who am I to say, the Earth knows better than me, and she’s been doing her thing for ages. I’m enjoying this sun, early or not.

It’s February and I 100 percent did not need that coat 😎☀️

It’s amazing how much a little warmth and sunshine can do for my mood and motivation. And Juno’s pretty excited for upcoming swim weather 🫶

Matcha Balm is joining the Wilde Fern family at ! This balm has been gaining almost as much of a cult following as Bright Eyes, and I have to say, it’s currently my favorite 💚

The balm is made with grape seed, h**p seed, and jojoba oils and it’s the silkiest thing I’ve ever put on my face! It started as a night balm, but I found I was using it morning AND night, and sometimes in between, so I renamed it- simply, Matcha Facial Balm.

And of course the star of the show is Matcha green tea, which is full of antioxidants to protect the skin from free radicals. Polyphenols help to smooth fine lines and improve overall skin elasticity and tone. Anti-inflammatory properties soothe redness and irritation from skin conditions and acne.

I love the way this balm locks in moisture and makes my face feel so smooth. Pro tip: rub in into your hands if you get too much on the face! 😆. I’ve even got my husband hooked!

I’ll be dropping a batch of these off to Refillery this Saturday 🫶

Sometimes things just don’t work out. New techniques and skills take time to develop. This is a bandana that I dyed with walnuts and then tried a cyanotype print on. and it didn’t turn out, I was kinda bummed. I just couldn’t figure out what I had done wrong, but it wasn’t the first time I had one that didn’t turn out. So I let it dry, set it aside, and decided it still looked kind of cool with just the blue circle. I’d wear it anyway. A happy accident.

A few days after later, I went to fold the bandana, and - lo and behold, I had been looking at the back the entire time! 😆 what I hadn’t noticed was that the print DID turn out, and quite beautifully if I do say so myself!

Moral of the story is - when things don’t work right the first time, you can always try again. And when something doesn’t go quite as planned, it can still be beautiful. And sometimes, you surprise yourself 🖤🌿

Midwinter ❄️💫

Midwinter, also celebrated as Imbolc and Candlemas, is the midway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. Traditionally this time of year was observed by feasting to the change of the season, honoring the goddess Brigid, and later St. Brigid, and celebrating the coming return of spring.

One way to honor Brigid was to bake oat cakes or bannocks in hopes that leaving the cakes would win the favor of her good health and prosperity for the upcoming season.

This year I made traditional Scottish oat cakes to celebrate Midwinter. As dairy was also often eaten during this time of year, I made lemon curd to dollop on top of the oatcakes for added sweetness. They turned out really earthy and simple tasting, and the bright lemon curd added a burst of sweetness reminiscent of the coming sunshine and spring. ☀️
