Detox your Organs
Did you know that there are five organs that are specifically responsible for detoxing the body and getting rid of waste? That’s how important it is to rid the body of unnecessary and harmful elements.
Otherwise known as the emunctory organs, sometimes these organs need to be detoxed individually but in general it’s always good to undergo a good detox routine 2-4 times per year and there are certain nutrients and plants that help detox each of these organs. So, the next time you go through a detox be sure to keep these organs in mind.
· Skin: Acts as a protective barrier from bacteria, viruses and environmental chemicals. Absorbs a large part of cellular waste and metabolic residues. Sweating, which is also a natural detoxifier.
· Lungs: Respiration-releases carbon dioxide; Filtration-eliminates waste through “sputum”; Protection- The mucociliary system and bronchial muscle contraction purifies dust, germs and other toxic substances by engulfment and expulsion.
· Liver: Neutralizes toxins to prevent them from re-entering the blood stream, eliminates waste from excess nutrients, transforms fat-soluble toxins into water-soluble form to be eliminated through urine or bile.
· Intestines: This one is pretty obvious! But just for the sake of sharing, the intestines are responsible for breaking down larger waste products like fats and proteins and eliminating them through the colon. The small intestines also act as a “tollbooth” by allowing some, small beneficial nutrients back into the blood stream but keeping larger ones as well as toxins.
· Kidneys: Removes waste products from the blood; maintains proper fluctuation of water and salts in the blood; participates in acid-base balance.
