We were honored to welcome two special guests to the Turning Winds campus recently! 🌟

A huge thank you to Noel Duram, Lincoln County Commissioner, and Representative Neil Duram for visiting with our students. It’s not every day our teens get to learn directly from local leaders who are so dedicated to our community.

In addition to sharing their professional insights, Noel brought along his karaoke equipment and turned our space into a stage! 🎤 It was an absolute blast to hear the students sing. More importantly, it was inspiring to see them find the courage to step up in front of everyone and share their voices.

Aside from sharing their musical talents, our guests engaged the group in powerful conversations about the importance of making good decisions in life. Their stories of leadership and personal responsibility truly resonate with our mission to help teens rediscover their potential and build a foundation for long-term success.

At Turning Winds, we believe that authentic human connection is a key part of the healing process. Having mentors like Noel and Neil show up for our students reminds them that their community cares about their future.

Let’s Start the New Year Right: Helping Teens Become Competent Goal-setters

Since Turning Winds is a residential treatment center and boarding school, the treatment team has a lot to say about what those goals probably should be. “We certainly use our relationships to influence the areas they are setting goals in but we very much want them to be in a position where it’s their process,” Sartell says. “They’re the ones driving it.” Clients determine what direction they want to go that will help them reintegrate with their families and the world, or help them maintain their sobriety or be more emotionally stable.
