There can be downsides to being a truth teller. ⁣

This time of year often brings introspection and assessment. Those of us in education are likely taking stock of our goals for the semester/year while publishing final grades. As such, we may feel particularly self-critical (of our own progress) while responding to emotional reactions from students. In short, this can be a tense and emotionally-charged time.⁣

The truth is that we will sometimes come up short. Sometimes life conflicts with our goals, and that’s ok. Sometimes we don’t have the capacity to take on another commitment. ⁣

As Mel Robbins reminds us, we are not responsible for how others respond to truth. We can hold firm to what’s true for us while lovingly communicating our boundaries. Whatever truth you need to own, do it with tact and resolve. I’d love to hear from you below- what’s true for you today? ⁣

Fellow professors, how would you rate your current stress level on a scale of 0-10? ⁣

We often ask our students to be disruptive problem-solvers and to think differently but remain silent when it comes to our professional health. ⁣

When is the last time you spoke up regarding your stress level/workload? How was your vulnerability received? ⁣

I’d love to hear from you. Comment below and let me know how you’re doing during this busy time in the semester 💕⁣

I received this message yesterday. Is it for you????⁣

To me, doors symbolize new beginnings and new ways of thinking. What metaphorical door are you waiting to open? What talents, experiences, and opportunities are you waiting to discover? ⁣

What do these three things have in common??? Click “read” to learn more!

Intention, attention, and action are all tenets of mindfulness. While mindfulness may sound complicated, all it means is nonjudgmental awareness. Want to give it a shot? Try this!

Instead of asking-

🚫 Why am I [insert unwanted behavior]?

Examples- checking my e-mail before having coffee, snacking too late, binge-watching tv, etc.

Try asking-

✅ What am I getting out of this behavior?

If you begin with the intention of curiosity rather than self-criticism, you may be able to recognize the benefits you’re reaping. That awareness can allow you to accept the behavior or reframe your goal rather than continuing to beat yourself up.

If you bring your attention to the particular behavior you’re trying to shift, you may realize that it’s satisfying core needs (feelings of safety, community, love, etc). Sometimes just making that connection is enough to see change.

Does this resonate? Share this with a friend who needs to hear this! 💕

Want to drop into relaxation mode? You have a tool readily available- your breath! ⁣

I’d love to hear from you below- What breath techniques do you turn to when you want to shift into parasympathetic mode?⁣

It’s time to stop accepting the unacceptable! Today’s inspiration comes from Malibu Rising, a book I’m reading for my community book club. ⁣

Reid writes: “Nina was not mad or jealous or embarrassed or anything else she might have expected. Nina was sad. Sad that she’d never lived a fraction of a second like Carrie Soto…Nina, her entire life, had been programmed to accept…It was so foreign to her, the idea of declaring that something was unacceptable.”⁣

This passage is so rich. A few questions come to mind- ⁣

1️⃣ What have you been programmed to accept? ⁣
2️⃣ Who/what benefits from you accepting ___? What support systems can you call upon as you set loving boundaries? ⁣
3️⃣ What would be different in your life if you stopped accepting ____?⁣

In my case, some of what I accept (but don’t want to) is tied to limiting beliefs. It’s scary and normal to feel powerless to speak up or make change. We can do it, though! ⁣

I’m excited to hear from you in the comments- What small step will you take today to shift the dynamic you identified? I believe in you! ⁣

Can we all agree to stop trying to fix ourselves and others? There’s nothing to fix! ⁣

Instead, I’m finding that it’s all about listening, honoring, and meeting ourselves/others where we are. ⁣

For me, fixing feels energetically tied to criticism and control while listening is rooted in connection and understanding. How could a gentler approach get you where you want to go? ⁣

I’d love to hear from you. What have you learned by listening? ⁣

What if what you’re afraid of is the key to your next upleveling? How can you use fear to propel you instead of letting it holding you back? ⁣

Fear is not your enemy. It is a powerful messenger. Fear is a spotlight showing you exactly where you are settling, tolerating, or playing small. Fear doesn’t want to win. It wants you to triumph!⁣
