October 2025 will be one of the most exciting months for skywatchers, with a lineup of planetary meetings, brilliant meteor showers, and even a rare double comet appearance. Here’s what to look for this month:
🔭 October 6 – Moon–Saturn Conjunction
The waxing Moon will pass close to Saturn, visible in the evening sky. A perfect chance to see Saturn’s golden glow beside the crescent Moon with binoculars or a small telescope.
🌕 October 7 – Hunter’s Full Moon
The famous autumn full moon rises, glowing larger and brighter than usual. Traditionally called the Hunter’s Moon, it lights up the crisp October nights just after sunset.
🌠 October 8 – Draconid Meteor Shower
The Draconids peak with slow-moving meteors radiating from the constellation Draco. Best seen in the early evening hours, just after nightfall. Though usually modest, this shower has surprised observers in the past with intense bursts.
🌌 October 21–22 – Orionid Meteor Shower Peak
One of the year’s most reliable meteor showers, produced by Halley’s Comet debris. Expect up to 20 meteors per hour under dark skies, with long bright trails cutting through the Milky Way before dawn.
☄️☄️ October 20–22 – Double Comet Show
A rare treat! Two comets will grace the skies simultaneously, each glowing with its own distinctive tail. With clear conditions, both may even be visible to the naked eye, creating a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle.
🌅 October 29 – Mercury at Greatest Eastern Elongation
Mercury reaches its best evening visibility of the year. Look low in the west just after sunset—this is the best time to spot the elusive innermost planet shining above the horizon.
