Unite for Reproductive and Gender Equity UA

Unite for Reproductive and Gender Equity UA URGE UA is a student organization at UA. We work to advocate for sexual and reproductive justice on the local, state, and national levels.

Unite for Reproductive and Gender Equity (URGE) UA is a student organization at the University of Alabama that meets at least once a week on a variety of reproductive justice issues. We utilize peer-to-peer education to ensure everyone is informed about their bodies, sex, sexuality, gender (identity and expression), healthy relationships, consent, abortion, contraception, healthcare, and much more to ensure they have the knowledge, power, confidence, and access to resources to make healthy and informed choices about their bodies. We strive for an intersectional feminist framework to addressing RJ issues in our communities, which means we recognize the socio-historical and modern-day impacts of oppression and marginalization. We strive to deconstruct racism, sexism, ableism, heterosexism, cissexism, transphobia, homophobia, ageism, classism, and other biases in ourselves, our communities, and our institutions.

URGE UA believes survivors of r**e and s*xual assault. We believe those who have come forward, those who are struggling to, those who are not believed, and those who may never share their trauma. We stand with you and will support you. We also will continue to speak up for those who cannot because of safety and employment concerns. We will continue to fight against patriarchal systems of oppression and work to be inclusive and open in our journey to do so.

We are in the midst of a global uprising for Black lives. Communities everywhere are demanding a world where Black people can live free from police violence--and thrive. It’s time for reproductive health, rights, and justice activists to get in formation. There can be no Reproductive Justice when Black womxn are criminalized, Black trans and non-binary people are marginalized, and Black parents cannot see their children grow in peace. Join Black RJ leaders and allies this Friday, June 5 at 12 pm PT/ 3 pm ET for a “Defending Black Bodies” townhall. Learn, connect, and take action. It will take all of us.
