Massage therapist, not a masseuse. As of January 1, 2026, California law now officially recognizes massage therapists who hold an active California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC) certification as health care providers. This means the state legislature added language to the Massage Therapy Act stating its intent that certified massage professionals are formally treated as part of the health-care services landscape rather than just “personal service” providers.

After our recent post about tissue timelines, we got a lot of people asking about the timelines for those with a connective tissue disorder and has you covered!

🧬 For individuals with connective tissue disorders such as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), healing often takes longer than standard timelines since connective tissue is a fundamental part of the healing process for all injuries. When collagen structure, organization, or cross-linking is altered, tissue repair and remodeling tend to be slower and less mechanically robust.

🙌 While we can’t change our genetics, understanding how connective tissue influences healing allows us to set realistic expectations and respect longer timelines to support recovery.

As healing occurs, the body still moves through 3 key phases but those with connective tissue disorders they are often prolonged, especially the final stage:

1️⃣ Inflammatory Phase (0–7+ days): The body’s immediate response to injury: swelling, pain and sensitivity may be more intense or last longer.

2️⃣ Proliferative Phase (1–6+ weeks): New tissue forms. Gentle, well-controlled movement and carefully dosed loading are essential.

3️⃣ Remodeling Phase (months to years): Tissue strength and organization gradually improve. This phase is often significantly extended in connective tissue disorders and full mechanical “normalization” may not occur even when symptoms improve. 🏋️‍♀️

‼️Timelines reflect typical healing ranges informed by connective tissue biology in people with connective tissue disorders and are not predictive of individual outcomes.

⏳Healing time is also influenced by factors such as injury severity, load management, sleep, nutrition, stress, hormones, comorbid conditions and access to appropriate care. Understanding both tissue biology and modifiable factors can help patients and clinicians make more informed rehab decisions.

talks about a major medical claim involving China, where researchers reportedly announced a potential cure for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes using stem cells. The idea is that stem cell therapy could help the body start producing insulin again, which is the hormone responsible for controlling blood sugar levels.

In Type 1 diabetes, the immune system destroys insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. In Type 2 diabetes, the body either does not produce enough insulin or cannot use it effectively. Stem cell research aims to regenerate or replace damaged beta cells so the pancreas can function more normally.

Scientists around the world have been working on stem cell–based treatments for years. In some experimental trials, patients have shown improved insulin production after receiving lab-grown cells. However, calling something a “cure” usually requires long-term proof that the disease does not return and that treatment is safe for large populations.

It is also important to understand that breakthroughs often begin with small clinical trials. Even if early results are promising, treatments must go through multiple phases of testing before becoming widely available. Managing immune rejection and ensuring long-term stability are major challenges in this field.

Overall, the caption highlights exciting progress in regenerative medicine, but such announcements should be viewed carefully until supported by large-scale evidence. Stem cell therapy holds real promise for diabetes treatment, yet widespread cures require continued research and global scientific validation.

C4 Nerve Root (Cervical Plexus: C1–C4)

Primary Motor Function:

Diaphragm (via phrenic nerve, mainly C3–C5) → breathing

Trapezius (partial) → shoulder elevation

Levator scapulae → scapular elevation

Other Notes:

Injury can cause difficulty shrugging shoulders and breathing issues (if phrenic nerve involvement)

Usually minimal distal limb weakness because most arm muscles are innervated by C5–T1
