At UT Health East Texas, physicians have the support and autonomy to practice medicine the way it’s meant to be delivered.

Dr. Joseph Conflitti says he’s been able to care for patients like family, stay at the forefront of his specialty, and be part of a close, community‑focused team. “With strong support from administration and the commitment of a physician-lead organization, I am able to take care of my patients like family and be an integral part of the direction and growth of the health system,” he shares.

“My goal throughout my career has been to join a program like UT Health East Texas AIR 1. I’ve continued learning and advancing so I could be part of a team known for high standards, teamwork and a strong focus on patient care.

What sets UT Health AIR 1 apart is the professionalism of the crew. Every team member is committed to delivering high-quality care and supporting each other, which directly impacts patient outcomes.

To me, being a flight nurse means maintaining composure in challenging situations and applying training and experience to make timely, critical decisions.

As UT Health AIR 1 marks its 40th year, I recognize the long-standing trust the program has earned in East Texas. Each mission reflects extensive training, preparation and coordinated teamwork.
I want people to know that behind every flight is a highly trained team dedicated to excellence and patient care.”

– Gracie Henson, RN, CFRN, EMT-P, Flight Nurse

Our UT Health East Texas EMS/AIR 1 team was honored to participate in this week’s ribbon cutting for The University of Texas at Tyler Helicopter Critical Care Transport Simulations Center, a state-of-the-art facility designed to train nurses and paramedics in critical care transportation. The program is the second medical flight program in the country with a clinical flight simulator – and the only one to train both nurses and paramedics. With more than 50% of the region’s residents living in rural areas, the need for highly trained air medical crews is critical. UT Health East Texas is proud to extend its partnership in training the caregivers of the future to this program. UT Health AIR 1 partner Metro Aviation donated the aircraft for the facility.
