I was watching an episode recently and this line hit me square in the heart. It so perfectly encapsulates the wonder of birth and the way it touches the souls of those who bear witness.

I have long said that birth is the closest we can come to both our humanity and our divinity simultaneously.

"If a laboring person understands why contractions hurt and are continuously nurtured and encouraged by humane, caring, confident people in a peaceful and safe environment; if they are free to move about to find greater comfort; and if they know effective ways to respond to contractions, fear gives way to mastery, confidence, and a sense of well-being.
