Fourth of July festivities continued into the evening at Union Care Center and the residents enjoyed hot dogs, watermelon, drinks, conversation, and of course fireworks. Many family members joined the festivities and we always love the support and to see the joy in our residents' faces when their loved ones are present. Celebrating the Independence of our Country with our residents today with some light refreshments and of course, BINGO! Tonight we will have fireworks, barbecue, and beverages for our residents to enjoy. At Union Care Center our residents enjoy the parties almost as much as we enjoy celebrating with them! Recently we achieved a status that is a benefit to our residents as a result of our amazing team and hard work. Based on many criteria, Medicare gives a star rating to nursing homes and Union Care Center achieved a four-star rating! This is a tremendous accomplishment for everyone! A celebration was held for all of the employees to honor them and this wonderful accomplishment. Congratulations to each of your for being a part of this achievement!

Behind every great team is a great leader... Is that how the saying goes? Well, we are fortunate to have a great one here at Union Care Center, Tracy. This past week wouldn't have happened without her support and guidance. She was very sick, came in each day participated, and hung in there on antibiotics and all!

Closing the week with country western theme included outdoor activities and teambuilding. It was a beautiful day to be outside and the residents thoroughly enjoyed the time playing the games against each other as well as against the staff.

Team members enjoyed the smiles on residents' faces and keeping them challenged with all of the games and fun.

Lunch was provided today for the staff and included pork steaks grilled by our maintenance supervisor, potato salad, and corn. It was delicious.

Today had multiple basket drawing. One basket donated by Tracy, administrator, was won by Dani Dill, one of our overnight team members. Another donated by Three Oaks Hospice and won by Stephanie in social services - no photo available she was so excited she tore it apart before a photo could be taken. ;) Another by Tara our MDS Coordinator won by Makayla Colbert an LPN that works days. The final one was a Keurig machine, coffee pods, and coffee decor donated by Tanya in the business office and won by Alexis Matheney a brand new employee working days as a CNA.

Congratulations to all of the winners this week and to all of the donors. We appreciate you all very much.

The Roaring 20s was Thursday's theme and it included a casino vibe. A roulette table along with a blackjack table were busy for residents and staff to enjoy. We had some serious winners and some not so serious winners but in the end, it was all fun and just games.

Today's basket was presented by Select Rehab team - Amy, Erin, Andrea, and Stephanie and it was won by Zack Copeland one of our dietary cooks. Congrats Zack and thank you to all who contributed to the basket!

Comedy Day - or more like a Wacky Wednesday was quite a skit. Jokes of Red Skelton and similar were performed. The residents were entertained but honestly the staff seemed to entertain themselves a bit more.

Today's basket was created and donated by Christeine from our housekeeping department and the winner was Ruth Kungu from our overnight team. Great job Christeine!

Showing appreciation isn't just about the gifts, it's what we strive to do every day at Union Care Center. This week we put together gift bags which included tumblers specifically designed for each team member. We hope they know our gratitude extends beyond this week and we appreciate their dedication and hard work.

Having a day at the diner or heading to the Sock Hop would be something enjoyed on our Tuesday themed activities. Poodle skirts were worn and a healthy competition between management and nursing as super-sized banana split sundaes were built! It was a crazy mess, close call in the end, but based on the judge's call... nursing staff can build sundaes beautiful and fast!

It was a win-win for everyone as in the end EVERYONE enjoyed the products of the race - - sundaes for residents and staff!

Today's raffle was donated by Stephanie in our social services department and the winner was Carl Cook who works overnights for us. Congratulations Carl and thank you Stephanie for your basket donation!

Skilled Nursing Home week at Union Care Center radiated memories as we had a "Tribute to the Golden Age of Radio." We started with Elvis Day on Monday as staff dressed in Elvis attire and a 'lip sync' contest entertained our residents! Our housekeeping supervisor, Christeine, was the winner of this contest.

Baskets were donated by many department managers and some outside vendors. Today's basket winner was April Robison and the basket she won was donated by St Croix Hospice. Charlie was able to take a photo since he happened to be nearby when we held the drawing. Congrats April! Thanks St Croix Hospice and Charlie. We appreciate your support.
