The Healing Power of the Body:
I drive a couple different vehicles, but my favorite is my Alfa Romeo... my little Italian Race Car. It's a hungry little car, requiring only the best. I have to use the higher-grade fuel. I have to put in the premium oil. If I don't, it won't run right. It then will begin to have signs and of wear and tear. It will begin to break down. No matter how expensive the fuel, no matter how expensive the oil, the transmission fluid, I pay the price. Because I want the best life out of my little race car. I want it to last. I want it to purr like a kitten-then roar as a lion, as I drop it out of granny mode and flip the switch to dynamic, feel the car squat down to hug the road, feel the engine become more reactive to my touch. I want it to breathe, to fly as only it can.
So... why would I give my body any less? Why would I feed it garbage... because it is too expensive to give my body the right fuel? Is it because I feel infallible? Is it because I know that vis medicatrix naturae is real? Why would I treat a car any different than I would my own body? Why would I treat my car different than my children, or even my 5 grandkids?
I had multiple conversations with patients regarding this over the course of the week...
When I am stressed, I do a few things:
1. Eat real food. No matter the cost, the time required, whether I have to go out of my way. I do what is required to eat real food. Lettuce wraps with carrots, bean sprouts, nuts, cucumbers, hummus, tomatoes. I ferment my own sauerkraut, and it is a staple when I am feeling stressed or run down. I eat fruit for breakfast. I do a shot of fire-cider to help with immunity.
2. Drink water and lots of it. I love distilled water or water out of the Berkey. I keep a large quart jar with a screw top drinking lid on my desk and replenish it all day long. I drink well over half my body weight in ounces of water daily.
3. I take my vitamins. I make it a priority. There is no excuse.
4. I have the privilege of a few things that I also have access to that help me when I am stressed or run down: Hyperbaric Chamber- this increases the oxygen in my tissues and in my brain, which helps me to be more cognizant and helps me to feel more whole. I follow this with a shot of glutathione and then hop in the sauna. The infrared helps to decrease oxidative stress in my body and helps with heat shock proteins. I have a vibration plate that I try to do twice a day for 10 minutes at a time. This increases the lymphatic drainage in my body. I also do PEMF for 20 minutes at a time to help with cellular recovery. I utilize essential oils daily- as I have left the need for endocrine disruptors like perfumes, candles, fabric softener etc., many years ago. I envelop myself in grounding and healing fabrics. In the winter, I wear wool and in the summer linen or cotton. I have organic cotton sheets on the bed, wool mattress toppers, Woolroom comforters and woolen pillows.
