Bystander CPR can be encouraged via quantitative proof; it is literally one of the key components to improving survival with cardiac arrest. Teaching the element of 'care' however, is something that is inherent in the student who chooses to take a class to learn more, and is not something that can be taught. We have tried to acknowledge to all of our students that you can't teach 'care'; it either exists or it does not. That is not some corporate BS mantra that we must state; it is just an axiom of life. If you CARE to learn how to help others, then you will CARE to learn how to do so, and help anyone that is in need of help. We applaud those who CARE to help their fellow human being, and those who care to work in a patient-facing environment in a time of the most confusion with healthcare information. Caring is all encompassing. We don't choose the recipient of assistance; that aspect is chosen for us. Choosing to help others is one of the noblest of human qualities, and we strive to foster that.
