๐Ÿ Prepare Your Body: During your last trimester of pregnancy you can practice with either yourself or a partner to help prepare your perineum for birth!

๐ŸŒŠ Birth In Water: The various positions that birthing people can take while pushing in water may uphold a less (physically) traumatic delivery. Water births may be protective to the pelvic floor since mothers birthing this way have more control over the second stage of labor.

๐ŸŒ›Birth Position Matters: Pushing positions were not created equally. Laying on your back with your legs raised causes you to work against gravity and push excessively, sometimes causing unnecessary trauma to the perineum.

๐ŸŒฌ Breathing Rather Than Pushing Out Baby: You do not need to push. At all. Your body has got it covered with a nifty thing called . Essentially your contractions alone are enough to get baby through the birth ca**l. (pushing for counts of ten) can cause birthing people to push too forcefully and tear more often.

๐ŸŒž Use Warm Compresses: A warm washcloth on perineum can help maximize stretching and support the tissue as baby comes through! Ask your provider if they are comfortable doing this for you.

๐Ÿ˜ Choice of Birth Place and Carer: Youโ€™re more likely to experience Purple Face Pushing and an in a hospital. At a birth center or home, your more likely to have a provider who makes an effort to keep your perineum intact.
Talk to your provider and consider changing if they donโ€™t support the birthing preferences you have.

โœ‚๏ธ Avoid An Episiotomy: In most situations, if any tearing is going to occur, natural tearing has less risk and often heals better. Episiotomy increases the risk of severe tears, and long term perineal, vaginal, pelvic floor, and a**l sphincter damage. An episiotomy rarely has benefits over a tear.

A sign of progress...

When the heels go up, the baby is coming down. Never fails...upright birth. ๐Ÿ˜

Hereโ€™s to all the mamas who stood on their own two feet - literally - claiming and channeling the energy of birth as it soared through them โœจ.
Hereโ€™s to all the dads that caught that first glimpse of their baby. Then reached out to receive them with both curiosity and certainty โœจ
