When people hear “ABA therapy,” they sometimes picture a rigid program. In reality, good therapy is individualized and built around the way a child learns best.

Often, that means play, routines, repetition, encouragement, and very small teaching moments woven into real life. A session might focus on requesting help, tolerating transitions, following simple directions, or learning how to communicate needs in a way that reduces frustration.

At Key Steps ABA Therapy, individualized treatment planning and data-based decisions are core to the work. The goal is not to make children fit a template. The goal is to help each child build meaningful skills in a way that feels supportive and practical.

Sometimes the smallest things are the first signs parents notice.

Every child develops at their own pace, and parents are often the first to notice when something feels a little different. It might be a delay in speech, difficulty with transitions, limited eye contact, or a child who seems frustrated when they cannot communicate what they need.

Noticing these things does not mean something is wrong. It simply means it may be helpful to learn more. Early support can make everyday life feel easier for both children and parents by building communication, confidence, and independence over time.

If you have ever thought, “I am not sure if this is typical,” you are not overreacting. Paying attention is part of caring.

Autism in girls is often overlooked because many learn to mask their differences, copy peers, or hide distress behind quiet, compliant behavior. Their struggles can be subtle but very real sensory sensitivities, exhaustion after social situations, literal thinking, intense interests, and a strong need for predictable routines. Many autistic girls show deep empathy yet have difficulty with emotional boundaries or hidden social rules. When we understand these signs, we stop missing girls who need support and start giving them the recognition, accommodations, and compassion they deserve.
