I would like to ask my friends and facebook family for some help with raising money for On Our Own of Carroll County. We are desperately trying to give our center a much needed face-lift.
For those of you that don't know, On Our Own of Carroll County is a Peer Support Wellness and Recovery Center. One of our goals is to provide a safe and welcoming environment for individuals with mental health and/addiction challenges to come and work on or being their recovery journeys.
We do this by providing an array of services which includes, peer support, educational workshops, support groups, advocacy and many others. We show people that recovery is possible, we offer hope when they feel hopeless and support them by reminding them that they are wroth it and are important to us. We help folks navigate the behavioral health care system by providing them with community resources and referrals. We don't believe in giving up on anyone and we accept people for who they are without judgment.
We first opened our doors in 2001. Since that time, we have helped numerous people find housing, employment, get into both mental health and addiction treatment, provided meals, help people get clothing, medication, haircuts, trained in Narcan as well as supporting the families.
We moved into our current location in 2006, since that time,we have had nearly 200,000 people come into our center. Before COVID-19, we were opened 7 days a week, sometimes 11 hours a day.
As you can imagine our center has taken a beaten physically and is looking pretty worn out. The flooring in our living room area is chipping and has cracks in it, making it difficult to keep it appropriately sanitized. The carpet in our two front offices are stained beyond repair. We need a fresh coat of paint and the kitchen could use some updating.
Most of our members are either homeless or live on a minimal income. We want to give them a comfortable, relaxing and inviting environment to come to.. If you can please find it in your heart help us, I would greatly appreciate it.
