"Here at Hartsville Health and Rehab, we like to make therapy fun! Therapists and patients have a blast when we incorporate games into group therapy. Recently, Tennessee had a snow and ice storm that was less than fun for anyone driving but residents celebrated by having a snowball fight. Then, of course, they had to clean up after themselves using reaches. Everyone was enjoying themselves so much they didn’t realize how much therapy they were getting. They improved seated balance, arm strength, and range of motion as well as getting their daily dose of laughter and hugs.

We love our patients and are always trying to make therapy something they can enjoy."

Mr. Douglas Hensley was a resident of Christian Care of Unicoi County who was admitted to our Rehabilitation Center to participate in our inpatient program following a decline in function. With a goal of regaining and improving function to go home, Mr. Hensley participated in Physical and Occupational therapy services. With dedication, determination, and a great attitude towards each session, Mr. Hensley gained increased mobility and strength with the directed exercise activities improving independence during ADLs!

Great job, Mr. Hensley!

Calling all PT, OT, and ST students!!

Tyler Bevins, Regional Vice President in TN, and Leslie Miller, Rehab Director at Durham Hensley Health and Rehab were honored to share awesome information about what it means to be a part of Broad River Rehab at a Job Fair at East Tennessee State University’s College of Health Sciences career fair.

Tyler and Leslie spent the day sharing the BRR culture, information about career opportunities, the new graduate mentor program, the Clinical Programs we have to offer as employees of BRR, and all the “awesomeness” that belonging to the BRR family brings.

"It was so much fun getting to meet these eager students and talk about our passion for skilled nursing!"

"Sandra came to Ivy Hall back in October after having her right knee replaced. She had a successful recovery and decided to have her left knee replacement performed in December. She is one tough lady as knee replacements are very painful and often take a long recovery period.
We are so proud of Sandra's hard work and successful completion of rehab twice in less than 4 months! Congratulations Sandra Ledford!"

Come on down!!!

The BRR team got together with the Wellness department at the Stratford to host "The Weight is Right!".

Members guessed the weight of everyday items, such as a case of pop and cat food, and then the team revealed the actual weight. Most members realized they can lift more weight than they think!

Smoky Mountain Health and Rehab had a wonderful patient success!

Ms. Carolyn Starkey was recently admitted to Smoky Mountain Health and Rehab after a fall that resulted in a fracture. Ms. Starkey had a decline in independence with her self-care, transfers, and mobility that prevented her from returning home. The Broad River Rehab Team immediately assisted her with her journey to recovery. Ms. Starkey was highly motivated. Physical and Occupational Therapy services began an aggressive individualized rehab program. On admission, she required assistance with all transfers, activities of daily living, and mobility

Three weeks later, Ms. Starkey is INDEPENDENT with all transfers, activities of daily living, and walks with her rollator and is now able to return to her prior living environment. Congratulations Ms. Starkey on all your hard work and success!

We are proud of you and thank you for allowing us to be a part of your journey and success!

"Through consistent participation in skilled Physical and Occupational Therapy services, Mr. Bryant made steady and meaningful progress toward his goals. Therapy interventions focused on improving function, strength, balance, and gait with focus on safe techniques. At the time of his discharge, he achieved multiple therapy goals and demonstrated the ability to safely perform functional mobility."
-BRR Therapy Team at Center on Aging

Mr. Bryant stated, “I am as good as I was with my balance and walking as I was before I came in here.”

Ms. Lois "Anne" Whittemore resides at Abundant Christian Community Rehabilitation Center Independent Living Cottages and was referred to Physical and Occupational Therapy services following a decline in function. The services are provided on campus with her goals to improve her balance, walking, strength, and overall endurance allowing her to be independent in her apartment. Ms. Whittemore works hard in therapy and challenges herself to meet her goals.

She reports, " I could barely move either of my shoulders. With the manual treatments and exercise that therapy has and continue to do, I am continuing to gain motion and strength, which is helping with daily life such as putting items in cabinets and closets. I am amazed at how all the different therapists that have worked with me are knowledgeable and understanding of how to help me get back to 100 percent."

Our Philosophy

We at Broad River believe that there is little skill required in identifying needs in skilled nursing. Simply walk down the hall of any facility and you will observe many clinical needs. The skill in skilled therapy, however, comes from having the passion (for the population we serve) and knowledge (both clinical and regulatory) to know how to address these needs. That is why Broad River Rehab promotes a culture that values passion and knowledge; formally investing internally and externally in ensuring its therapists have the passion, knowledge, tools, and experience to meet the clinical needs of the residents and clients that we serve.
