I'm reposting my post re Long COVID and the recent research that at long last shows why recovery is so hard (exercise intolerance, ordinary exercise induces muscle damage!) and what forms of exercise might prove useful to people with this post-viral syndrome.
I'm doing this because someone posted a sales pitch for an herb doctor and there is a rule against posting ads in comments, and they shut off the ability to make Comments on my post.
So here's my post again, in case it helps someone with Long COVID feel less discouraged.

Tens of millions of people have ended up with long COVID, and it is very debilitating and discouraging condition.
I treated some patients with Long COVID back when I had my private practice acupuncture clinic in NYC during the pandemic, and had done a lot of reading on the subject in the medical literature, both East and West. There was very little understanding of it at that point in time, so this new research opens up more understanding of what the virus did to their bodies.
It’s very challenging for people with Long COVID fibromyalgia to find ways to stay strong without doing damage (!) to their muscles.
There are two movement systems in Chinese medicine that most people find helpful for keeping in shape without causing muscle damage: Qi Gong and Tai Chi.*
In addition, I have found that Taoist meditation is very helpful. I listen to tapes of my meditation teacher when he gives a healing chant session for his students. Opening the body to the Qi Field brings more energy into the meridians that carry the subtle energies throughout the body, and contribute to healing. Because this type of meditation can bring more energy to the body, it contributes to the process of healing.
These gentle forms of exercise together with the meditation, and Chinese herb formulas that restore the body after long-term infectious disease are a slow but sure path of healing.

This same advice goes for those with fibromyalgia, with which I am only too familiar, having had it for the past 30 years. I figured out several years ago that it was a post-viral syndrome, and now with Long COVID where we can observe millions of people with a post-viral syndrome who have nearly the same set of problems as those with fibromyalgia face, Western researchers are recognizing that these two chronic disease states are both post-viral syndromes.
I posted this article because it gives me some hope to further develop treatments for both fibromyalgia and Long COVID, knowing what it does to the muscle tissues in the body. There is hope! We now have more understanding.
As a new study shows, the answer lies in some long COVID sufferers’ muscle damage and their bodies’ ability to make energy.
