It’s always an honor to be invited to Career Day at Coleman Junior High! 💙🧡💙🧡

Cayla spent the day teaching students about the medically complex children we care for and the importance of compassion, respect, and making safe choices. The students even got hands-on experience running a mock “code,” learning how to bag a trach-dependent “patient.”

Opportunities like this help inspire the next generation of healthcare heroes — and we’re grateful to share the heart behind what we do every day.

We had the sweetest time gathering with our residents, their families, and our wonderful team to share a delicious Thanksgiving meal. The room was filled with smiles, laughter, and all the love that makes this season so special. 💛

A huge thank you to our amazing staff for preparing such a beautiful meal and to all the families who joined us — you truly made the day memorable.

Happy Nurse Practitioner Week to our one and only, Zana! 💙✨

For over 16 years, Zana has been the heart of Truman — the primary provider to our special littles and a steady source of love, comfort, and compassion. She pours her whole heart into caring for each child as if they were her own, and the joy she brings into our building is truly unmatched. 💛

Outside of Truman, Zana is equally proud of her own beautiful family. She’s the biggest cheerleader for her daughters — whether she’s at Disney World supporting one, or sharing the incredible accomplishments of her other daughter, who is a doctorate-prepared nurse anesthetist at Parkland in Dallas. And to top it all off, she is happily married to the love of her life and loves traveling the world with him whenever she can. ✈️❤️

Zana, we hope you feel celebrated, appreciated, and deeply loved this week. Thank you for everything you are — and everything you pour into Truman. 💙

Sparrows Matters is a wonderful nonprofit dedicated to supporting families of children with special needs. Their mission is to help families find their voices by equipping them to speak up, be heard, and lead with confidence.

Truman at the 2025 PCCA Conference 🌟

In October, some of our Truman crew attended the annual Pediatric Complex Care Association (PCCA) Conference in Florida!

Being part of this incredible association is so important to us — it allows us to connect with other pediatric providers across the country, learn essential updates and practices that help us grow, gain new perspectives on the challenges we face daily, and (most importantly) bond as a team. 💙

This was our third conference and our second year as proud PCCA members. We’re grateful for the opportunities, relationships, and knowledge this organization brings — and we’re already looking forward to next year!

This year was also a special one as we celebrated the well-deserved retirement of Ms. Pat Budo, who has served as Executive Director for many years. Thank you for your leadership and dedication to pediatric complex care!

🤝 A Special Visit at Truman W. Smith Children’s Care Center 💙

Yesterday, we were honored to welcome Texas lawmakers and members of the Health and Human Services Commission to our facility. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the incredible work our team does each day and to share the stories of the children who inspire us all.

We are deeply grateful for their ongoing commitment to improving the quality of care and quality of life for our little Texans. Together, we’re building a stronger future for the children and families we serve.

Thank you to everyone who made this visit such a success — and to our guests for taking the time to see the heart behind the care at Truman W. Smith. 💛
