NEW PHOTO - Beautiful girl who just needs a calm and loving home 🦋 My name is YUMI❤️I was surrendered due to my owner moving away and I am a shy girl but I have a gorgeous shiny coat and am looking for a loving adult only home.
Beautiful Yumi was dumped by her owner. She is a gorgeous pantherette who is already spayed. Yumi had some litterbox issues according to her owner and a full vet check should be given. Come meet her at MACC. Yumi is on the emergency placement list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and remains hidden inside her den. She has not warmed up despite staff offering various forms of enrichment. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who has experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.
What my friends at ACC say about me:
I'm an independent kitty who likes to do my own thing.
I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace.
I would do best in a home with only adult humans.
A volunteer writes:
Settling for less is out of question for Yumi, a young and pretty damsel left with us as her owners moved to a place not allowing pets. She wants what she had before, her home and her family. Period! Yumi is wary of everything and everyone around her. She has not bulged in the two months she has been with us and can be seen as an immovable fixture at the back of her cubby, stretching, eating and using her litter box(yes, she does at the shelter) when everything calms down around her and rather in the dark. A glance or a move on our part sends her back to her hideout. Although she accepts the touch of a feather on her head, Yumi prefers for us not to proceed further. Yumi, from what we gather from her former owners' words and our own experience with her, seems to be a shy but sweet and gentle cat who likes to play, stays around her family, and does not care too much for changes. She needs a stable and quiet new home and a patient owner who will give her time to relax, feel safe and warm up to his/her touch and love. Yumi is waiting for you at the Manhattan Care Center.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 6/1/22
At middle of top cubby crouched down with head and ears forward, focused on me with tense body and wide eyes. When spoken to and opening the door, she steps back, stress meows, and begins growling. When reaching close to offer treats on the scratcher tool, she briefly sniffs them and continues growling with fur pilo-erect. She steps all the way to the back and sits up, staring at me. Very stressed and fearful.
6/5/22
Yumi was behind the litter box in the bottom cubby. The button on the cubby was stuck; so, I couldn’t open the door and see what was going on. I offered her a squeeze-up, which she didn’t react to. I reached in through the portal and gently pet her head, and I didn’t feel any reaction from her (she didn’t back away, but she didn’t lean in).
6/6/22
At back of top cubby curled up. When spoken to and opening the door, she scoots back further against the back corner with a tense body, wide, dilated eyes, and pilo-erect fur. She ignores dry and puree treats offered and allows petting on her head and body, but turns her head to the corner and lip licks with her ears flat. Very shy cat!
6/7/22
Resting at back of top cubby- shrunk back a small amount with head down when door was opened but otherwise remained in curled position. Leaned forward to sniff dry treats but did not eat them and had same reaction to puree treat. Allowed petting on head and along fully body with scratcher tool and had a slightly tense body and turned ears. Allowed me to then pet/scratch her head with soft eyes and ears straight forward.
6/8/22
Curled up in back of top cubby with face pressed against wall. When door is opened she remains where she is and when scratcher tool with tuna is moved near her she starts to low growl/whine with some lip licking. She again tolerates petting with the scratcher tool along her whole body and by hand on her head but low growls/whines throughout. Interaction is ended to limit FAS.
6/10/22
Lying low in the litter box, head very low, large eyes, allows touch with the scratcher tool, sniffs treats and allows petting on the cheek and head while remaining fearful.
6/11/22
Was crouched down in back of cubby looking toward me. Ignored dry treats and squeeze up offered on scratcher. Allowed petting by scratcher on cheek and top of head. couldn’t reach the cat by hand.
6/12/22
This time Yumi was in the top cubby. I reached in through the portal and gently pet her head for a couple minutes, which she tolerated. Same as last week, she didn’t back away, but she didn’t lean in so I kept the interaction short.
6/30/22
Returned from foster. Hiding in the far corner of her den, low growls and hisses when puree treat offered on tool. Another attempt is made with chicken this time and while she shows no interest in the treat she did allow for slow short pets on her head with the scratcher tool for some time.
Notes continued in GAN
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Subdued
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Timid,Independent,Skittish
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Inappropriate elimination,New home adjustment period,Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Yumi was reported to have litter box accidents, possibly due to anxiety when seen by the vet. During the litter box observation period, Yumi appropriately used the litter box every day and has not was not recorded to have an accident during her time in shelter.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Yumi was tightly crouched with tail wrapped against her body in the cubby. Alert with eyes wide, anxiously looking around. She accepted touch with the scratcher tool but began to withdraw. Ears turned to the side while lip licking in place. Ignored offered treats.
Yumi tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
