Hello ladies!!

Welcome to this weeks episode of 🎶Women’s Health Wednesday! 🎶

Today we are continuing our discussion on pessaries. ⭕️🔴🟥

We want to shine some light on the reasons why women would seek fitting for a pessary from their OB-GYN. 👩‍⚕️👩🏽‍⚕️👨🏿‍⚕️
(We found this awesome info at )

• Needing temporary or long-term help with urine leakage during exercise.
• Having mild symptoms and want to avoid surgery for the moment.
• Stress urinary incontinence or pelvic organ prolapse (shift).
• Desiring non-surgical treatment of symptoms (some women want to delay surgery and some want to avoid it altogether).
• Wanting to have another baby and holding off on surgery until your family is complete.
• Having health problems that make the risks of surgery too great.
• Needing to delay surgery and are uncomfortable from incontinence symptoms.

Pessaries can be bought over the counter (see below: Poise Impressa). We want to remind you that although a pessary can HELP you with your symptoms, getting to the root of the cause is SO IMPORTANT in conjunction with pessary use. Please see a healthcare professional before use.
Aka: pressure management and education through pelvic floor physical therapy! 🧩🧩🧩🧩

This is key 🔑 🔐
Our core, diaphragm, and pelvic floor are important, and managing pressure can help prevent and manage pelvic floor symptoms!!! 🎯🎯🎯

Hello ladies!!! 👋🏿👋🏾👋🏽👋🏼👋🏻👋

Women’s Health Wednesday is here!! (A day late🤣)

This week (and who knows how many more- because this info is AWESOME 😂) we are going to be talking about pessaries! 💪

A pessary is a device that inserts into the va**na to help provide support to the tissues and organs. They are (typically) fitted by your OB-GYN and come in MANY different shapes and sizes (plastic solid circle, silicone ring, or a cube). 🔴 ⭕️ 🟥
Some can stay in for months (yes you can still have s*x), while others are only used during symptomatic activities (running, jumping, heavy weight lifting).

Using a pessary is a conservative, non-surgical, (and sometimes long-term) approach to managing bladder leakage and/or prolapse symptoms. This is especially helpful in women who are working with a physical therapist to manage symptoms and AVOID surgery.

If you need help navigating pelvic floor symptoms, physical therapy can help you!! Book an online appointment today!!

Hello ladies!!

Welcome to this weeks episode of
💪 Women’s 💪 Health 💪 Wednesday💪

Today we want to talk about kegels!

Did you know this exercise was actually named after the gynecologist, Arnold Kegel, who first recommended this exercise to strengthen the pelvic floor. 💡

Kegels are NOT just mindlessly contracting your pelvic floor, though. You need the “why” (a diagnosis) before you begin the “how” (treatment). 🎯

Kegels can be performed many different ways, for many different reasons:
Lying down 🛏
Sitting 🪑
Standing 🧍🏿‍♀️🧍🏽‍♀️🧍‍♀️🧍🏾‍♀️🧍🏼‍♀️🧍🏻‍♀️
Fast 💨
Slow ⏰
For time ⏱
With a cough 😷
With a laugh 😂
Before exercise 🛒
During exercise 🚴🏻‍♀️
After exercise 🛀

There are even apps to help you remember to perform your exercises! (We have a favorite we can recommend). 👍

Remember!!! Many women actually suffer from a tense pelvic floor, so they are unable to fully RELAX their muscles! 😬 In this case, kegels can make their symptoms worse!! We use the bicep muscle to demonstrate this (see video). 🎥

Great info! No pain but positive MRI findings. 🤔Your specific pain is not just based on an image, but your specific individualized story and findings. With every visit is individualized.

Another example where so many ‘problems’ were found on MRIs of the knee but the people DID NOT have any pain. Great that accounts like are highlighting this point…

☀️ Hello ladies! ☀️

Welcome to this weeks episode of Women’s Health Wednesday!

Today we want to talk about a procedure that is becoming more and more (and more!) common: breast plant removal.

According to the center4research, “46% of women with silicone gel implants and 21% with saline implants underwent at least one re-operation within three years; 25% of silicone patients and 8% of saline patients had implants removed; and. 6% of silicone patients and 16% of saline patients experienced breast pain.”

Furthermore, the Aesthetic Society recently released its annual statistics for 2019 showing a 14.9% decrease in breast augmentation surgery, while breast plant removal increased 34.4%!

Okay!
Why are we talking about this?!?

Some women may experience ZERO symptoms and love their implants (hallelujah! 🙌), while others may struggle with symptoms forcing them to make a very hard decision to have their implants removed. Whether you are deciding to have an augmentation, have your implants removed, or have other maintenance procedures, physical therapy can help you before and after surgery!

We are a community of women who can help support you throughout your journey. From physical therapy, to counseling, to personal training, to nutrition, we can help you navigate pre and post surgery. 💗

🌹 Hello ladies! 🌹

Welcome to this weeks episode of Women’s Health Wednesday!

Today we want to shine some light on different labor positions. 💪 💪 💪

The traditional position for pushing during delivery is called “lithotomy”. This is when mom is lying on her back with her legs flexed to 90 degrees at her hips (think Hollywood movies where a woman is pushing and baby is born in 5 min 😂🤪)

What a lot of women don’t know is that there are many other birthing positions:
• Kneeling
• Standing
• Hands-and-knees
• Side-lying
• Squatting
• Using a U-shaped birth seat

We love the info from Evidence Based Birth on different birth positions (link is in the comments!).

It’s always very (VERY!!) important to talk to your OB about what birth positions you’d like to try during labor/delivery and make sure you are supported in your birth plan. 💗

I’d you’d like further info from our trained pelvic floor physical therapists, book an online appointment today!

Hello ladies!

Welcome to this weeks episode of Women’s Health Wednesday!

We want to talk about a common postpartum struggle: weight loss 😫

Many women (ourselves included) couldn’t wait to shed those extra baby weight pounds as 👏 soon 👏 as 👏 baby 👏 was 👏 born 👏.

🎶 Baby weight- bye, bye, bye- 👋 👋 👋 🎶

But many women (also- us 🙋‍♀️😂) find that postpartum weight loss just isn’t as easy as you’d hoped for (prayed for 😂🙏).

While a healthy weight is, well, healthy, the most important weight to focus on postpartum is baby’s. 👶 💕 👶💕

So if you are still rocking maternity clothes months after birth (this is also us- 🙋‍♀️) don’t be hard on yourself. They really are the most comfy clothes! 😂

On the flip side (there’s always a flip side) if you’re having trouble navigating exercise and nutrition postpartum, don’t do it alone! We can help you establish a safe and appropriate postpartum plan that’s just right for you!

💗Hello ladies!! 💗

Welcome to this weeks episode of Women’s Health Wednesday!

Today we want to talk about your heart. ❤️ ♥️ ❤️ ♥️

A you taking good care of it?!?!

A lot of women don’t know that heart disease is the number one ( #1!!) killer of women. Heart disease, which accounts for around 27 percent of all female deaths, kills more women in the United States than all forms of cancer combined! 😱

The good news (whew!) is that there are many different things women can do to prevent heart disease! 🥳

• Control your blood pressure.
• Keep your cholesterol and triglyceride levels under control.
• Stay at a healthy weight.
• Eat a healthy diet.
• Get regular exercise.
• Limit alcohol.
• Don't smoke.
• Manage stress.
• Manage diabetes.
• Make sure that you get enough sleep.

As always, we are here to help!!! Let our multidisciplinary team approach help you! We are a team of physical therapist, nutritionists, personal trainers, and counselors!

My favorite part from the article: With a healthy pelvic floor, “what people should really feel is confidence”, says Berry. You shouldn’t be fearful of leaking urine if you cough, for instance. “You’re able to hold urine really well and then, when you get to the toilet, you’re able to relax and have a really good wee. And there should be good sensation with s*x.”
