Alzheimer's Home Therapy LLC We then trialed dozens of activities that combined these treatments, choosing ones that offered the most gains.

Our unique, hospital-developed therapy has helped thousands of individuals live a longer, happier life by assisting them with regaining lost mental abilities while improving physical and emotional well-being. Our staff spent three years collaborating with doctors, physical and occupational therapists, and other medical professionals while working with hundreds of persons with dementia to identify a non-pharmacological treatment that can increase longevity and improve life quality. After testing several approaches, we found that blending holistic treatments, such as brain games, sensory therapy, and exercise, provide individuals with significant benefits, much more than each intervention on its own. Today, we use this method to better individuals’ lives in the community and long-term care facilities. Our in-home therapy can also significantly decrease the risk of developing dementia for persons of all ages. Our treatment includes a blend of three highly-effective means of preventing dementia; brain games, sensory therapy, and exercise, all of which profoundly benefit brain health. Not only will our program help you maintain or improve mental function, but it will also better emotional and physical well-being. We’ve helped thousands of individuals with dementia live longer, happier lives, and we’re confident we can help your loved one, too! Whether they reside alone, with family, or in a long-term care facility, our unique treatment program can significantly improve their emotional well-being and physical functioning while slowing mental decline. Because dementia affects each person differently, we’ll conduct an in-depth assessment to identify your loved one’s individual needs and then develop a treatment plan to help them achieve their optimal health. Once complete, we’ll review it with you and begin therapy upon your approval. For more information about our therapeutic program, visit the Our Therapy and Benefits Page or call 1.779.ALZ.HOPE (1-779-259-4673).

One of our family friend's took this photo of Dad last week. It was actually a photo of him sitting in a chair with clothes that he didn't remember me bringing him. He wanted to know if I gave him the outfit so our friend snapped a photo and sent it to me. Yes, it was the gray t-shirt and pants I brought him recently. More important than that, I zoomed in on his face to get this photo which captures his reality with painstaking accuracy.

I have to remind myself that no matter how exhausted and upset I am at second guessing everything I do or don't do for him, that he is more exhausted and second guessing literally everything.

He has been in and out of the hospital twice in seven days. They always send him "home". He won't have any recollection of going at all. He won't remember that our friend took this photo. He won't remember all my visits and gifts. He isn't aware that the drive is four hours door to door from our house to his facility. As soon as I leave, he will tell people he hasn't seen me in years.

You sell their home. You donate their belongings. The lamps, end tables, artificial plants, books, out of date furniture, even the three Dustbusters still in their boxes that never were opened. Having three brand new Dustbusters probably should have been our first clue that something was wrong. It's not fair, this end of life journey. It feels gross having taken all that away from him. The amount of guilt I have, weighs more than words can measure. As the months turn into years, you just pray that you've managed his money well enough to outlive him so that he can be in the nicest place he can afford to be until the money runs out. Fun fact: Memory Care is not covered under any insurance. Read that again and tell me we don't have a health care crisis in America.

If Alzheimer's disease hasn't touched your life, you are extremely lucky. We are on year six of our journey and counting.
We are exhausted.

Sometimes I want my life back so much that I feel guilty letting God know it's okay to end his suffering, which I negotiate nightly in my prayers.

Other times I'm just hoping that if he knew what I was doing it would be making him proud. Sometime I hold out hope that he will say something so hilarious when I see him that I will randomly recall it and laugh, as I'm in my fourth Bucee's bathroom stall of the day.

Like I said, if Alzheimer's disease hasn't touched your life, you are extremely lucky. Did I mention, we are exhausted?
