💜 Newborn stem cells are being studied as a way to help children with congenital heart disease!

Researchers at the Medical College of Wisconsin and the Herma Heart Institute are developing cardiac implants made from newborn stem cells.

Their goal is for these valves to continue to grow throughout childhood. CBR® is proud to partner with Herma Heart Institute to support this research. And for families who receive a CHD diagnosis during pregnancy, we offer no-cost processing and 18 years of storage through our medical needs program.

🌟 All about the amazing umbilical cord! 🌟

Function: The umbilical cord connects the fetus to the placenta, delivering nutrients and oxygen while removing waste.

Structure: It is made up of three blood vessels, two arteries, and one vein, and it's surrounded by Wharton's jelly, which cushions and protects the blood vessels.

Development: The cord begins to form around week three of pregnancy and is fully developed by week seven.

Length: On average, the umbilical cord measures 50–60 cm long and 1–2 cm in diameter!

Birth: After birth, the cord is clamped, cut close to the navel, and it usually falls off within 1–3 weeks.

Stem Cells: Umbilical cord stem cells are rich sources of powerful stem cells! They can be used to help treat over 80 conditions including leukemia and sickle cell anemia.

Having an October baby? Here are some fun facts about October-born little ones! 🎃🧡

🌸 Birth Flowers: October babies are represented by the marigold and cosmos. Marigolds symbolize warmth, creativity, and passion, while cosmos stand for peace, balance, and harmony—just like your autumn sweetheart!

💎 Birthstone: October has not one, but two dazzling birthstones—opal and tourmaline. Opals are known for their shimmering play of colors and are believed to inspire hope, love, and creativity. Tourmaline comes in many vibrant hues and is associated with healing, protection, and self-expression.

♎️ ♏️ Zodiac Signs: October babies fall under Libra or Scorpio. Libras are social, diplomatic, and full of charm—natural peacemakers who love beauty and balance. Scorpios are passionate, intuitive, and deeply loyal—small but mighty with big hearts and strong wills.

Are you expecting a baby this October? Or does your little one have an October birthday? Tell us all about them in the comments! 🍂✨
