Our region has utilized the services at Capital Area Counseling since 1968. Capital Area Counseling is a 501c3 not-for-profit corporation established to meet the mental health and addiction needs in Central South Dakota. CACS serves the nine counties of Hughes, Stanley, Haakon, Jones, Lyman, Buffalo, Hyde, Sully and Potter.

We're partnering with Capital Area Counseling Service to provide free naloxone (Narcan®) in Gettysburg. The opioid rescue box is located in the ER vestibule and is available 24/7. Naloxone is a simple nasal spray that is easy to administer. While it can be lifesaving for someone who is overdosing, it won’t hurt someone if they aren’t truly overdosing.

This partnership reflects our shared commitment to prevention and community health. Placing naloxone where people can easily access it helps reduce stigma and empowers community members to take action in an emergency.
