Our region has utilized the services at Capital Area Counseling since 1968. Capital Area Counseling is a 501c3 not-for-profit corporation established to meet the mental health and addiction needs in Central South Dakota. CACS serves the nine counties of Hughes, Stanley, Haakon, Jones, Lyman, Buffalo, Hyde, Sully and Potter.

On March 6, National Employee Appreciation Day, we recognized and celebrated the great work of all CACS team members.

Linda Schumacher was awarded our 2025 Annual OSCAR Award winner. The Offering Services with Compassion and Respect Award was in existence from 2002-2012. After fourteen years, we are incredibly proud to bring this award back, to honor the employee who demonstrates care, compassion, empathy, kindness and deep respect for those who depend on us in their time of need.
