Mental health professionals who treat active duty and veteran military service members and their families require state-of-the-art training in effective treatments for depression, suicidality, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance abuse, anger, and personality disorders. Because of a shortage of professionals who have received this training, the number of American service members who are suffering — and in some cases dying by suicide — during and after deployment is rising. To reverse this trend and save our heroes’ lives, the internationally renowned Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy has begun a training fund to increase the number of mental health professionals trained to provide effective treatment to active duty and veteran military service members. Established in 1994, Beck Institute has trained thousands of military and civilian mental health professionals in Cognitive Behavior Therapy. Cognitive Behavior Therapy stands apart from other forms of psychotherapy as a short-term, common-sense approach, demonstrated in several hundred research studies to be effective in treating depression, post-traumatic stress, and other serious problems that can lead to suicide.
