Yesterday, our President Allen Serfas spoke at the Senior Learning Institute seminar at the Maryland Heights Community Center about navigating home care and supporting families as loved ones age.

ICYMI: A few key takeaways from the seminar's conversation:
• Home health and home care are different. Home health provides short-term medical services, while home care supports with safe daily life at home.
• Caregiving often falls on one person in a family. Support for family caregivers can make a meaningful difference for the whole family.
• Caregiver match matters. Trust, communication, and connection help care succeed.

One of the biggest reminders from the room: home care is not just about helping the older adult, it also supports the family caregiver.

Yesterday was Missouri Alzheimer’s Awareness Day, and our State Capitol turned purple as advocates from across the state gathered in Jefferson City for ! 💜

Our President and Co-Founder, Allen Serfas, joined volunteers and advocates meeting with elected officials at the Capitol to make Alzheimer’s and dementia care a priority in Missouri and to be a voice for the many families and caregivers navigating this disease.

Key priorities included:
• Maintaining funding for the Caregiver Training and Relief Program. Advocates raised concerns about proposed cuts in the state’s FY26 budget, which could lead to increased Medicaid costs if families are forced to turn to nursing home care.

• Establishing a Dementia Services Coordinator within the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, legislation aimed at improving coordination of dementia resources for the more than 122,000 Missourians living with Alzheimer’s. (23 other U.S. states currently have this position actively in place)

• Reauthorizing the Missouri Alzheimer’s State Plan Task Force to continue guiding progress statewide at no cost to taxpayers.

The dip-to-chip ratio was perfect today at our “Dip-Off” potluck as we celebrated a little Office Team appreciation! From coordinating care and supporting families to keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes, our office Team does so much to support our Care Professionals and the Clients we serve every day.

We’re so grateful for all the heart, teamwork, and creativity (variety of dip recipes) our Office Team brings to Assistance Home Care's culture! 🥣💙

Last night we had the privilege of attending the St. Louis Walk to Defeat ALS Kickoff Event. The St. Louis Walk to Defeat ALS was the #1 Walk in the country in 2025, and the community is already gearing up for an even bigger year ahead in 2026!

2026 marks a meaningful milestone in our partnership with the APDA Missouri Chapter. 💙

Since 2014, Assistance Home Care has proudly supported the American Parkinson Disease Association through annual Optimism Walks and ongoing community involvement. By the end of this year, we'll have surpassed $60,000 in lifetime giving to the APDA Missouri Chapter, representing over a decade of showing up, walk by walk, year after year.

Being connected with the APDA has also led to one of our own, Amanda Schmidt, BSW, becoming a leader one of the largest Parkinson's support groups in St. Charles, bringing connection, empathy, education, and encouragement directly to families who need it most and we could not be more proud of the impact she's able to make!

The APDA's Mission reaches far beyond fundraising. Through exercise programs, support groups, advocacy, and research initiatives, they provide hope and practical support to individuals living with Parkinson's disease and the families and caregivers who walk alongside them every day.

We invite you to learn more about the APDA Missouri Chapter and consider joining this mission! Whether you walk, give, partner, volunteer, or simply share the word, it all adds up, and together, we can continue taking meaningful steps toward a future cure for Parkinson's disease.
