Loneliness isn’t just a sad feeling. It can impact health, happiness, and a sense of belonging.

We recently took some time to acknowledge World Down Syndrome Day - a message that stays with us every day.

For many people with Down syndrome, loneliness can happen when someone is present but not truly included.

At sasi, we stand together against loneliness by creating real inclusion every day. These moments of laughing, learning, creating, and connecting show what belonging can look like.

Being together matters. Feeling connected matters. And no one should feel alone 💙

Kennedy came to sasi using a wheelchair as her primary means of mobility.

She had significant contractures in her hips and knees, trunk instability, and difficulty maintaining balance. Walking wasn’t something she believed would be possible.

But Michael Strosky, our physical therapist, saw potential.

Over the years, they worked together through stretching, therapeutic exercise, weight-bearing, strength building, and alignment training.

Step by step, Kennedy progressed from standing… to transferring… to walking.

Now she walks daily. In the summer, she even does laps in the parking lot! Something she once thought she’d never be able to do.

Awareness matters, but funding is critical.

The I/DD community and its dedicated workforce rely on stable, sustained funding to ensure uninterrupted, high-quality care. Without it, essential services are at risk.

We must continue to speak up for those who cannot always advocate for themselves. Together, we can protect services, strengthen the workforce, and invest in the people who depend on them.

Please fill out the form in the comments to urge your legislators to prioritize increased funding today.
