These leaders are now equipped to support families, connect community members to resources, and help strengthen access to care across Bridgeport.

Together, we’re building a stronger Bridgeport.

Bridgeport Public Schools has secured a $714,456.95 Community WiFi Grant to expand reliable internet access for our students, families, and community.

“This initiative is about removing barriers for our students and the communities we serve,” said Interim Superintendent Dr. Royce Avery. “Reliable internet access is essential, and this work helps ensure our students can learn, stay connected beyond the classroom, and access the opportunities they deserve.”

This state supported investment will expand our existing RESNET network into a long term solution, focusing on Trumbull Gardens, Charles F. Greene Homes, and parts of the PT Barnum communities.

In partnership with Park City Communities, residents will be able to access the network through local housing offices or eduroam.

This is about equity, access, and opportunity for every student and family in Bridgeport.

Please note: this funding is part of a restricted federal grant that can only be used for broadband and internet infrastructure. It was specifically awarded to expand WiFi access for students and families and cannot be redirected to other city needs.

Have you heard that the new orange bracelets, a statewide effort to keep new moms safe and healthy, are working! The bracelets are given to anyone who gives birth at a CT hospital, and they are meant to be worn for 12 weeks.

They’re designed to raise awareness about urgent warning signs and to help new parents get the help they need. Already, these bracelets have helped parents get to the emergency room and get “quickly triaged to an OB consult,” which is exactly the goal. What does the data tell us about Bridgeport—and what do we do with it?

At our latest CARE Health session, DataHaven helped answer that question, walking us through key insights on health trends across the community. The conversation focused not just on understanding the data, but on how we use it to inform decisions, align resources, and take meaningful action.

Because data alone doesn’t create change - people do.

A big step forward for civic engagement in Connecticut 👇

A new statewide initiative will create a Seal of Civics Education and Engagement to recognize students who demonstrate strong civic knowledge and active participation in their communities.

This effort—championed by the CT Cradle to Career Coalition—comes at a critical time and reflects the importance of preparing young people to be informed, engaged members of our communities.

Strong civics education is linked to higher student engagement, critical thinking, and long-term participation in our democracy—ensuring students are not just college- and career-ready, but civics-ready too.

We’re grateful to the educators, students, and partners who helped make this possible.

We’re proud to share that Milagrosa “Millie” Seguinot, our Parents Connecting Parents Project Manager, was honored with the Ira V. Hiscock Award at the Connecticut Public Health Association’s Annual Conference—recognizing her outstanding leadership and dedication to advancing community health.

We also had the opportunity to attend The Basics Learning Network Convening in Boston, where we joined communities from across the country and globe in celebrating 10 years of The Basics. Through this work, we continue to bring evidence-based, everyday strategies to families in Bridgeport that support early learning, brain development, and school readiness from birth to age five.

These moments reinforce why this work matters. By investing in parents, caregivers, and community leaders, we are building stronger foundations for children and families across Bridgeport.

Together, we can continue to grow this impact and ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive.
