Changes that matter take commitment and perseverance. Losing weight and changing your habits permanently, is difficult. The fact is that many more women will fail this year than will succeed. Yet, why do we continue to look for the quick and easy answer? We have come to expect a quick and easy way to do everything. Advertisers know this and tell us that we can make a million dollars, master a second language, or lose 50 pounds within days, and with little effort. You know in your head and your heart that this is not the truth.

What if this year you tried a new approach? Instead of looking for some new shortcut, you decide that you will commit to doing the hard work no matter what? You embrace the truth that it will take time and be difficult. It will be uncomfortable. And, you will doubt yourself many times along the way. But, you keep going anyway. Maybe next year at this time your scale will say something very different? And that place is worth fighting to get to.

We sent thirty warm and cozy coats to Rosie's Place yesterday. Now that the weather is getting colder you have helped one of their guests stay warm. Thank you so much for your generosity. There is no deadline for your donations. We will be collecting all season if you have a coat to give. If you can't easily get here to drop it off, please let me know and I will pick it up. The first time I went to a gym I was 25 pounds heavier, extremely self-conscious, and intimidated. I remember I was wearing baggy gym pants while everyone else seemed to be clad in all black, looking fit and athletic. I was embarrassed about how I looked and so uncomfortable, but somehow I made it through that first free personal training session at Gold's gym and kept going back. Ironically, strength training became one of the keys to my losing that weight and keeping it off for over twenty years. If you are tired of sweating it out with hours of cardio and still can't get the scale to budge, maybe you need to consider adding some iron? Not in your diet - in your hands.
