Lupus Charity Runners Lupus Charity Runners are a group of both new and seasoned runners who run, bike, or swim to raise funds and awareness for the Lupus Society of Illinois.

The Lupus Society of Illinois’ mission is to promote lupus awareness and complement the work of health care professionals by providing personalized resources for the lupus community while supporting research. Our vision is to be recognized as an active resource for Illinois’ lupus community. For over forty years, the Lupus Society of Illinois (LSI) has been serving the lupus community. We understand the uncertainty and heartache of having lupus and caring for someone with the disease. Our team works tirelessly to provide answers to difficult questions and offers reliable resources to everyone touched by lupus. We are able to deliver all of our programs and services at no cost to the lupus community.

CAR-T Therapy for Complicated Lupus (Experimental Use)
By Dr. Robert Katz

If you follow lupus research, you may have heard about CAR-T cell therapy—an innovative treatment approach currently being investigated for people with complicated, refractory systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This experimental therapy is being studied primarily in patients who have not responded to conventional immunosuppressive treatments. Early clinical studies have shown promising results, including significant improvements in disease activity and, in some cases, sustained drug-free remission. This article explains what CAR-T therapy is and how it works.

A liquid biopsy for kidney lupus is being developed. It relies on determining levels of tenascin C in the urine. It’s a predictor of kidney function loss in lupus. – Dr. Robert Katz, LSI's Board Chair and Medical Advisory Board Chair.

Meet Chelsea
Hello, my fellow lupus warriors and supporters! I am new to the Chicago community and began volunteering with the Lupus Society of Illinois in August. I am so honored to be a part of a local lupus nonprofit whose values and passions align with my own. This article is something I’ve dreamed of writing for many years. When I discovered LSI while relocating from Wisconsin and shared the concept, I was met with so much enthusiasm and support.

I’m retiring. Yes, I know I’ve said that before, but this time it’s for real.
It has been an incredible honor and privilege to work with the Lupus Society of Illinois (LSI) for the past 15 years. When I came out of retirement to join LSI, I had no idea how profoundly it would impact me to become a part of the lupus community—our community.
Together, we’ve made a difference.
I plan to continue to support the LSI - I hope we can count on your support as well.
With gratitude,
Charles Brummell
Retired CEO

Re-posting in case you missed this.
A Liquid Biopsy for Lupus Nephritis?

What it is: Liquid biopsy is a noninvasive urine test that looks at proteins and is currently being developed for lupus nephritis by Dr. Andrea Fava, assistant professor of medicine, Division of Rheumatology, and director of Lupus Translational Research, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, and his colleagues.
