…continued from previous post - 1. Choose your container. The pot should stand at least 6 to 8 inches tall, have drainage at the bottom and come with a tray to prevent water leakage. I choose to germinate them first in these self watering mason jars. You will need 1 wide-mouthed Mason jar, 1 tea strainer (that sits in the Mason jar), 6″ (15 cm) piece of thin rope (I cut a thin piece of a t-shirt), potting soil and herb of choice. On the next post we will choose our soil.

Do you want to start an indoor herbal garden? Did you know you can start one without expensive greenhouse, irrigation system or lightning? Just follow these three simple steps:
1. Containers: your pots should be 6 to 8 inches tall and have drainage on the bottom. It helps if they come with a tray to prevent leakage but if they don't simply use a plate from home.
2. Soil: your soil should be able to mix with your favorite fertilizers such as lime peels, coffee grounds, egg shells, etc...The soil should also be fast draining.
3. Planting: start small, three or four. Seeds will take the longest (two to three weeks to grow) while plants will be ready much sooner. Choose easy to grow herbs such as mint, ginger, thyme, sage, garlic, basil and echicacia.
Enjoy and post your herbs here once they start growing.
