A big thank you to our friends at MARY KAY who recently blessed our breast cancer patients with 72 Chemo Care Kits. These beautifully packaged kits were sponsored by Charleston area Mary Kay customers — and our local Mary Kay consultants generously matched every single kit donated. Thank you!

A huge congratulations to our breast cancer team, which just earned reaccreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.

Programs that seek out this accreditation must show that they provide integrated, multidisciplinary, comprehensive breast care with a patient-centered approach.

We're proud of our team for putting forth excellence every day!

If you or someone you love has a history of smoking, think about lung cancer screening. The lung cancer screening test is a noninvasive, painless scan - and it can help to find cancer at an early stage, when it's easier to treat. Who should consider lung cancer screening?

If you're:
-50-80 years old (up to 77 for Medicare coverage)
-Currently smoke or quit in the last 15 years
-Have a 20-pack-year smoking history (that means one pack a day for 20 years or two packs a day for 10 years).

We have nurse practitioners throughout the state who can sit down with you to talk through whether lung cancer screening is right for you. Give us a call!

Thanks to advances in HIV care, people living with HIV are now more likely to die from lung cancer than HIV.

And people with HIV also have higher rates of tobacco-related cancers than the general population.

A Hollings team is looking at the best way to reach this group to help them to stop smoking.

Hollings Cancer Center researchers have been awarded a federal grant to help people with HIV to quit smoking by changing practices in Ryan White clinics.

Thank you to the South Carolina Stingrays for helping to raise awareness of cancer last weekend! The Stingrays auctioned jerseys to raise money for Hollings and talked about lung cancer screening on the Stingrays Broadcast Network.

Our team had a fantastic time at the game. Lung cancer survivor Denise Swick and lung cancer physician assistant Eleanor Hardy dropped the pucks before the game, and our human resources manager, Hannah Daniel, cranked the siren to get the crowd pumped!

We featured Denise's story earlier this year. She tells us that she's back at work, back to driving, and even has been able to take up running again - "slowly but surely," she says.

She recently completed her final immunotherapy infusion!

We're honored to be part of Denise's story. You can read our earlier story here: https://bit.ly/4gy6397

"It was truly one of the greatest moments of my career to be recognized this way. I cannot imagine a more perfect profession – I love my job and my community and am grateful for the trust placed in me to help individuals and families through such a difficult time in their lives."

Congratulations and a well-deserved honor for Hollings' Dr. Andrea Abbott who was recently named a Hometown Hero by Tanger Outlets, Charleston. We're so proud to have you on the team!

“We’re at a watershed moment in this country.”

That is how Hollings researcher Dr. Benjamin Toll described a proposed federal policy to limit ni****ne levels in ci******es and related products. Toll co-led an American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) statement supporting the policy that calls for dropping ni****ne levels by over 95%, which would make ci******es minimally or non-addictive.

By helping millions of people quit smoking and stopping even more from starting, the policy could prevent countless cancers, saving millions of lives and billions in health care costs.
