Humans are constantly searching for ways for others to relate with them on an intellectual, physical and emotional level. Most people enjoy the opportunity to share their stories and experiences with others. It makes us feel good knowing that someone cares and listens.
Here are some tips on how to create big conversations:
💚Give Compliments
According to Sociology Professor, Beate Volker, a well-thought-out compliment is good for one's health. "A compliment enhances someone's happiness and self-image and gives a compliment to the production of dopamine in the brain, which gives you a blissful, positive feeling. Compliments are small gifts for your mental health," Volker says.
💚Express Genuine Interest
Quality conversations begin with intention and focus. An authentic conversation requires your full attention to the person you are speaking with while establishing steady eye contact. Mobile phones have made it harder to accomplish this as people are more likely glued to their screens and inseparable with their gadgets rather than have face-to-face conversations. Turn off your phone and avoid any distractions.
💚Ask Deeper Questions
By asking a variety of close- and open-ended questions, you are inviting your partner to help the conversation flow and share as much information. Digging deeper also shows sincerity and interest to listen. Try to keep a close eye on their comfort level. A person who is interested is more likely to smile, engage in longer responses and lean forward.
