Why Learn Ortho-Bionomy?

Ortho-Bionomy can change the dynamic of your practice, from trying to “fix” your clients to working with your clients to support and facilitate their individual healing process. With Ortho-Bionomy, clients actively participate in their own recovery and healing.

Practitioners facilitate the process of finding balance and ease with gentle, non-invasive positioning and movement that works with chronic stress, injuries and pains or problems associated with postural and structural imbalances. These gentle positions, and movements, combined with self care techniques, facilitate changes in the client’s stress and pain patterns. With Ortho-Bionomy, we recognize the client’s pattern, find the position of comfort, exaggerate the position of comfort, and in turn support the body’s self-correcting reflexes.

Using Ortho-Bionomy can increase the scope of your practice and draw a wider client base. Because Ortho-Bionomy is gentle and non-invasive, it can often be utilized when massage or other approaches are contra-indicated. Additionally, as Ortho-Bionomy is practiced with clothing on, you can attract clients who have trauma and/or body issues and are more comfortable remaining clothed.

Ortho-Bionomy integrates beautifully with other modalities, including massage and bodywork.

By attending Ortho-Bionomy classes, you have the opportunity to understand the principles of Ortho-Bionomy and practice through hands on experience. You can take what you have learned and apply it in your practice right away. These skills are a great way to set yourself apart from other therapists in your area.

How does Ortho-Bionomy Work?

Ortho-Bionomy stimulates the body's self-balancing reflexes.

The Practitioner uses gentle techniques to hold you in a comfortable position that allows your body to change the stress and pain patterns that are causing discomfort, thereby alleviating pain, increasing flexibility, improving circulation, and relaxing the entire body.

Ortho-Bionomy helps people break the cycle of pain – without creating pain.

Ortho-Bionomy also acknowledges and affirms the inner wisdom in your body that can maintain your health and well-being. Using light touch and subtle movements, it awakens a sense of natural balance for body, mind and spirit. Ortho-Bionomy is also compassionate, kind and non judgmental.

When the body is out of balance, it adapts as well as it can, but in the process it may create patterns of even greater stress. The simplicity of Ortho-Bionomy means the practitioner and client may work together to re-educate dysfunctional patterns and restore normal functioning.

Whether looking for relief from specific discomfort or a safe and effective way to ease stress and promote relaxation, Ortho-Bionomy can be very beneficial. It can also work in conjunction with other health and healing systems.

Ortho-Bionomy is about a connection between the client and the practitioner. This connection is often mysterious and profound as the healing process unfolds. In this interview with Rupert Sheldrake he talks about the Extended Mind, a further understanding of the ways we can connect.

Ortho-Bionomy® is a very effective method of releasing trigger points which cause over 80% of the body pain we experience. Releasing a trigger point with direct pressure is helpful but changing the underlying patterns of muscle, fascia and joints is the long term solution that avoids the return of trigger points and allows for the restoration of natural balance.

This first video is a short explanation and introduction to the trigger point. Many health and pain problems, like frozen shoulder, chronic neck stiffness an...

What reflexes does Ortho-Bionomy affect in the body?

There are sensors in and around all of our joints and within the fibers of all of our muscles which tell the brain and nervous system what is happening to our physical structure at all times. Our sense of movement and posture are constantly monitored by these proprioceptive Reflexes.

The reflex arcs, which are created by this information, help coordinate all of our movements, maintain our posture and form habits so that we don’t have to pay attention to everything. These habits, when caused by injuries, stress, bad posture, functional imbalance and disease, allow us to maintain an imbalanced structure that leads to further symptoms and conditions.
