If you know you need to exercise but dread workouts, you need a new focus.

You don’t need motivation. That’s external.

You need inspiration. That’s internal.

Connect to what you most desire and the movement:activity it takes to fully participate.

This will keep you inspired to train for exactly what you want.

This is why my classes aren’t like any others.

If you need support to achieve your desires, learn more at the links in my bio or fell free to message me.

My assessments reveal that their hypersensitive nervous system is the primary driver of their pain.

Central Sensitization means that their nervous system is stuck in fight/flight/freeze/fawn/flop mode all the time.

These folks tell me that they….

-always feel tight, yet stretching doesn’t help
-have difficulty relating pain to a movement or activity
-never relax
-have constant pain in several areas of their body
-sleep poorly
-worry constantly, mostly on behalf of family and friends
-take a variety of medications for conditions related to stress (though no health professional has made the connection)

When the nervous system is the primary source of pain, treatments need to be directed to regulating the nervous system.

What does nervous system regulation mean?

The autonomic nervous system responds appropriately to the environment.

The response is subconscious and habitually responds based on all life experiences, positive and negative.

Most of my patients can see and feel the apparent external stressors.

It’s the subtle internal stressors that are more difficult to understand as the source of ongoing tension and pain, like…

-desire to please everyone and avoid harsh judgement
-harsh internal self-talk, criticism and judgement
-desire to be seen and heard
-fear of being seen and heard when that doesn’t meet others expectations
-bracing to suppress difficult emotions; their own and of others

And yes, some of the stressors are the thoughts and beliefs people have about pain, like:

Fear and avoidance of certain movements with the belief that they are risky or harmful

Belief that only vigorous exercise will benefit and since they can’t do that, then nothing will help

The body is solely responsible for the pain, and since they can’t change that only someone outside of them can offer a fix

The only way to help regulate the nervous system is to first provide a safe forum to explore the sources of both external and internal stressors and then coach behavioral change (cognitive and physical) that regulates the nervous system responses.

Especially this time of year!

What does going easy mean?

*️⃣Moderate paced walk instead of power walking.
*️⃣10 minutes on your mat breathing and gently moving through each joint.
*️⃣Lifting at an effort level of 6, leaving 4 reps “in the tank” as compared to “pushing to failure” each set.

During the holiday season there’s a lot going on. And that doesn’t mean you 🛑 focusing on healing. Going a little easier is giving your brain and nervous system what it needs.

Rather than overload, pause and notice how you feel. Move in ways that feel good.

Stop pushing and start easing into, not only exercise, but other aspects of your life.

Your sensitive nervous system will thank you ☺️

If you want to see what easy means and how it can help your nervous system, I’m teaching 4 more classes through December. Message me to give one a try for free;)

We’ve had snow and a cold snap here in Ohio. I’m inside trying to stay warm and thinking about all the ways I can help people out of pain.

If only the medical system didn’t convince you that your discs and joints were THE PROBLEM; you could see your way, gently out of pain.

This was a good session of Ask Me Anything. If you would like the replay…shoot me DM.

Pain is information. The more you resist it, the more it persists.

When you get still and quiet with specific practices like meditation or expressive writing, you’re able to listen.

When you’ve been in pain for a while it’s not easy. But start with one breath; a nice long sign. Then notice the next breath and the next.

During my last “Ask Me Anything”, we discussed signs and symptoms that your pain is driven by a sensitive nervous system rather than a degenerative joint or disc.

This Friday we’ll talk about how to address your nervous system and what treatments work to relieve pain.

Maybe not completely free from pain but more active, more engaged, and more connected to the life you want to live.

If you have any sense of this inner knowing, you are on your way. You just need to Nurture it!

Join me December 5 at Noon and we’ll talk about how to get started. I’ll share simple practices designed to help you connect to, strengthen and transform that knowing into action. You’ll also have time to Ask Me Anything. Go the link in my bio to register.

This is true for depression. Depression is made worse by rumination and rumination is made worse by depression.

I’ve seen it happen with pain. The more fixated on your pain, the more it hurts.

Education about pain is useful but over-analysis is not good.

Where do you draw the line in trying to figure out the source of your pain and just being with it?

Who has felt this?

Maybe you have some questions? Join me for my next Ask Me Anything December 5. Sign up to join me at the link in my bio.

So many women say to me…

“I’ll just have to live with the pain”

It breaks my heart because they don’t feel like there is anything they can do for their pain.

When I listen to their story I hear many things, small that that can add up to big changes.

I KNOW their pain is stress and nervous system based in their stories they tell, like…

✅When I sit for long hours sewing, I.e. something that I love 🥰 , I don’t have pain.

❌When I’m rushing to get out of the house and see I’m going to be a few minutes late for an appointment, my pain gets worse.

❌When I watch my adult kids struggle and know there’s little I can do to help, my tension increases.

✅When my family is gathered enjoying time together, the work of cooking and cleaning doesn’t both me at all.

✅When I’m sitting on my front porch listening to the birds with my cup of coffee…no pain.

❌When I get cut off in traffic, I can feel the tension rise.

✅After a guided meditation where I can feel my nervous system and body relax, neck tension eases too.

❌When I hear stories in the news of injustice at the hands of the US president and his fledgling right-wing administration, my jaw clenches and neck tenses.

✅After a day of gardening and lifting, I may feel muscle soreness but not pain. It’s a good hurt;)

Helping women pay attention to what feels good is as important to noticing what hurts.

I help them create more of what they love and respond intentionally to things that create stress, tension and pain.

At first you might not notice these sensations. They are subtle but with a practice quiet and gentle movement is a way to get good at noticing. And once you notice, you’re on your way to true healing!

A life with less pain is possible ❤️‍🩹

Join me on Zoom tomorrow to ask if some of what you feel could be brain and nervous system rather than joint/muscle/bone/disc.
