The holidays can bring joy, but they can also bring pressure.

From perfect plans to ideal outcomes, we often hold onto expectations that leave us feeling overwhelmed, disappointed, or disconnected.

Letting go doesn’t mean giving up. It means accepting what is, embracing flexibility, and treating ourselves with kindness when life doesn’t go as planned.

On December 3, Homewood Health hosted the 2025 Geropsychiatry Community Education Program (GCEP) Conference.

Titled Strengthening Staff, Improving Safety, Enhancing Care, the conference brought together healthcare professionals and community partners to explore practical skills, empathy-driven approaches, and evidence-informed strategies to support older adults living with mental health, substance use, and neurocognitive challenges.

The day sparked meaningful conversations and shared learning, with insights aimed at strengthening care, improving safety, and supporting better outcomes for older adults across our communities.

We’re grateful to our Homewood contributors Dr. A. S. Luthra, Paula Frappier, and Jordana Sternberg, as well as external speakers Gail Elliott and Jane Keupfer, and members of the Waterloo Wellington Older Adult Council Substance Use Working Group, whose expertise and collaboration helped make the conference a success.

Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this important work

Measurement-Based Care has been part of Homewood Health’s work for nearly a decade, beginning with a 2015 pilot supported by the Homewood Research Institute (HRI). Since then, our journey has expanded from paper-based tools to a national electronic platform that now supports more than 25,000 clients and 1,430 clinicians across 20 programs.

Homewood Touchpoint has helped clinicians understand client needs in real time, tailor treatment, identify trends, and strengthen outcomes across a wide range of conditions including substance use, anxiety, depression, trauma, and concurrent disorders.

Our recent MBC recognition is one milestone, but the foundation is the work our teams have built over years of innovation, research, and collaboration.

The holidays can bring connection and joy — but they can also test our limits.

Setting healthy boundaries helps protect your energy, manage expectations, and create space for moments that truly matter.

This season, remember: saying no when you need to is an act of self-care, not selfishness. Boundaries allow you to show up with more presence, patience, and peace — for yourself and those you care about.

Artificial intelligence is changing the way we live and work, and many employees are wondering what it means for their mental health.

AI brings new opportunities, but it also introduces uncertainty, digital overload, and questions about trust and wellbeing.

Homewood Health’s new AI & Mental Health series explores these issues from multiple perspectives, including how leaders can guide teams through change and how employees can set healthy boundaries with AI tools.

As technology evolves, one thing stays the same: mental health care works best when it is grounded in real human connection.
