Rachel Rossi Counseling is now Bloom Mental Healthcare!

Why the name change?

Because we are growing!

New office in Westminster
New services and group offerings
Same care, authenticity, and devotion to our clients.

Thank you for being a part of our blossoming (and for tolerating what may be an annoying amount of flower-oriented puns.)

We are so grateful for your support, and are excited for what is to come.

Come grow with us!

“You can relate to yourself with both accountability and gentleness. In fact you must.” Dr. Alexandra Solomon

Self-compassion is an essential ingredient for change, as it allows us to step outside of the common pattern of vacillating between self-condemnation and over-indulgence to see oneself clearly.

I sometimes hear the concern that if we are too kind to ourselves then we will never make changes. We know, however, that our tendency to try to shame ourselves into change predictably backfires and creates further distress.

Try self-compassion instead. Speak to yourself with compassion and kindness. Nurture yourself like you would a younger version of you, a great friend, a beautiful plant (if you speak to your plants?), or someone you love. Through compassion, change can be cultivated and new patterns can emerge.

You are much more likely to accomplish your goals by making one small change. What is that small change?

Write them down. Pretty simple, huh? You can increase that likelihood even more by sharing your goals with a friend. This phenomenon has been demonstrated over and over again, and is backed by neuroscience.

I love to begin each month with intention setting. Sometimes it feels good to choose a word (gratitude, joy, challenge, etc,) to set concrete goals, or to pause and reflect on some questions.

Especially as we kick off 2021 with all of the “new year, new me energy.

Especially as 2021 ushers in ongoing pandemic fatigue, chaos within our social political system, and uncertainty.

May you accept yourself today, exactly as you are.

I go to this Joseph Campbell quote at times when the world feels out of control. Toxic positivity (always looking on the bright side, ignoring hardships, heartaches, reality, trauma and challenges,) is entirely unhelpful, yet I do find a sense of comfort and centering when I hear this quote, so long as I hold tenderness and acceptance for the sorrow, fear, and pain I feel.

24 hours/day, 168 hours/week. I find it really hard at times to find proper balance and to divvy up the precious hours I have in a sustainable, healthy way. To divide up my time amongst personal needs, social needs, the needs of my family, and my business. Because this is such a moving target--what works one day/week may not the next--I find this to be especially tricky.

2020 has taught me, among other things, that time is not something to be taken for granted. My hope is to remember this in 2021, to be intentional about time, to have grace when things get out of balance and to trust that balance can be achieved again.

For the non-resolutioners and resolutioners alike.

While it’s kind of tempting to write off 2020 as categorically bad, I’m finding it helpful to look backward, forward, and within as I approach 2021.

Wishing y’all hope, peace, healing, joy in the new year ✨

Recovering perfectionist right here 🙋‍♀️.

Mistakes are absolutely essential. I try to celebrate them when I can, particularly in my work as a therapist. While I KNOW all that mistakes can offer, if I’m honest, some days are harder than others to accept and celebrate them. To accept and celebrate myself, mistakes and all.

Inviting you to celebrate and embrace them today with me—professionally, academically, and personally—especially during this strange season.

The quality of our relationships has a profound influence on our physical health, mental health, longevity, and wellbeing.

As humans we have evolved to regulate, connect, and survive within relationships, not apart from them. Our cooperation with and dependence on others has always been essential for survival, and we aren’t meant to manage our physical or emotional pain alone. So if you’re feeling overwhelmed and needing support, this does not make you weak. It makes you human.

It can be hard to know what to say when someone shares something difficult with you. Our natural urge to help, fix, protect (ourselves and others) kicks in. Remember that offering presence is key, and there is really no ‘fixing.’ Just our open heart, our authentic experience, our regulated nervous system, and our love and care.
