Last night's winter precipitation was highly variable across the Quad State, resulting in highly variable road conditions. The bulk of the problems will be focused bridges, untreated roads, and sidewalks. Temperatures are expected to climb to the freezing mark or a few degrees higher, which should lead to some improvement of road conditions. Any moisture that is left on road surfaces this evening will freeze, resulting in black ice tonight into Wednesday morning.

Precipitation has rapidly switched over to snow, with some bands of moderate to heavy snow. 1-2" per hour snowfall rates will be possible. The snow will come to an end from the west through 3 AM. Portions of west Kentucky, especially east of the Lakes could see 2-3" of snow before it ends. Roads will become slick and hazardous quickly with the onset of the heavier snow. Travel conditions will deteriorate as colder air arrives by daybreak. Expect slick and hazardous conditions for the morning commute.

01/12/2025

From this evening into Tuesday morning across much of the Quad State, snow and sleet accumulations up to 1 inch and a light glaze of icing will cause slippery road conditions. Further north, a burst of light snow around an inch (or two for the Evansville area) is possible, but travel impacts will be limited.

A Dense Fog Advisory has been issued until 9 AM CST Friday morning for most of southern Illinois, western Kentucky, and all of southeast Missouri. If driving, slow down, use low beam headlights, and leave plenty of space between your vehicle and others.

WATCH vs. WARNING: With Sourdough Bread!
Not sure what the difference is?
Let’s explain it using something tasty... sourdough bread.
WATCH: Conditions are favorable for a storm to develop. It’s like when you’ve just mixed your sourdough ingredients, and the dough is rising. You’re not baking yet, but you know something might be coming. It’s time to keep an eye on things, review your emergency plan, and be prepared just in case.
WARNING: Your sourdough is in the oven, the heat is on, and there’s no turning back. You need to take action immediately.

The coldest airmass of the season will descend across the region tonight through Tuesday morning. Temperatures will fall well into the 20s and wind chills will be in the teens each of the next two mornings. Fortunately, the chill looks short-lived with a significant warm-up expected mid to late week.

09/11/2025

Much colder and blustery conditions are expected today through Tuesday morning. Morning wind chill values of 10-15 degrees are forecast on Monday and 15-20 degrees on Tuesday. There will be a chance of flurries or light snow showers tonight into Monday, with the best chances in southwest Indiana. No accumulation is expected. A significant warm up will begin Tuesday, and high temperatures by Saturday will reach the lower 70s. Other than a small chance of rain on Friday, the forecast will be dry.

Here are a bunch of helpful tips when it comes to winter driving. Review these before heading out on snowy/icy roadways. Review these with young or newly licensed drivers as well.
