Mystic Valley was delighted to host Nurse Managers from around the state last week. We are one of 24 Aging Services Access Points (ASAPs) that each serve a region of the Commonwealth. Part of that role entails working closely with the MA Executive Office of Aging & Independence and our fellow ASAPs to share insights, training and more. Thank you to Desiree Kelley, Clinical Nurse Manager, and Melissa Enos, Home Care and Program Analytics Nurse from the state's Executive Office of Aging & Independence and to all the ASAPs who joined us!

Every year we provide nearly 800,000 meals to older adults and people with disabilities in our communities, including many who face significant barriers to food security. We also hold a Nutrition Open House annually for the Mystic Valley team. We get to sample the yummy food, which is a great plus! 😋 More importantly, our staff gets to learn more about how our Nutrition Department works, so they’re able to advise the people they serve. For example, while trying the Lo Mein and Marry Me Chicken, they’re also learning about our range of cultural and medically tailored meals, about home delivery vs. community dining sites, and more. Thank you to our Team for the tasty open house and the work you do every day, and thanks to our awesome our catering partners City Fresh Foods, TRIO Community Meals and Greater Boston Chinese Golden Age Center.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! ☘️ Our Supportive Housing residents dressed to the hilt and enjoyed a variety of festivities — a shamrock ornament craft in North Reading, a classic corned beef meal and a leprechaun name game at two of our Malden sites, and Shamrock Shakes in Everett. Erin go bragh! 🇨🇮

Mystic Valley Elder Services has grown in our 50 years: the number of people we serve, the size of our staff, the type and quantity of programs we offer. Yet many of our services remain as essential as they were in 1975:

✅ Delivering meals to homebound individuals and community sites

✅ Home Care that enables older adults and people with disabilities to remain in the homes and communities they love

✅ Health and healthcare management services that ensure residents get the care they deserve

⭐️ What else hasn’t changed? Our goal of empowering and to live independently, with dignity, in the setting of their choice.

Kathryn from the Mystic Valley team attended Portal to Hope’s “Talk Priorities with Legislators” yesterday. Portal To Hope is an award-winning nonprofit that helps the victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking crimes. Speakers from the Massachusetts Office for Victim Assistance and Jane Doe Inc. provided updates on their programs and emphasized the growing need for support as they face potential funding challenges ahead. We were fortunate to hear from MA lawmakers — State Senator Sal DiDomenico, Christine Barber - State Representative, State Representative Paul Donato and Steve Ultrino for State Representative — as well as Medford Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn and Medford Police Department Chief Jack Buckley. The safety of older adults is a sensitive topic. If you need help or know someone who does, please call us at 781-324-7705. You can also learn more at www.mves.org/protective-services.
