🎄✨ December Pet of the Month: Henry! ✨🎄

This month’s spotlight goes to Henry, a 3-year-old golden retriever with the soul of a lazy old man and the heart of pure holiday cheer. From the moment he arrived, Henry carried himself like a wise grandpa in a fluffy golden coat — so naturally, he needed a name that matched! 🧡🎅

Henry’s favorite things include:
✨ Napping (a LOT)
✨ Balcony lounging
✨ City walks
✨ Boat rides
✨ Hanging out with his many aunties
✨ And most importantly… eating cheese

When he’s not being adorable, Henry is known for one mischievous habit:
🧶 He has chewed one corner of every single rug his family has ever owned. Every. Single. One.

Funniest memory? Easy. He once inhaled an entire Pup Cup and all in a single bite — so the ice cream shop owner tossed him a scoop like a snowball… and Henry caught it mid-air like a holiday miracle. ❄️🍦

Nicknames include: Hank, Hen, Henny, Henny Boy, Bubby, and Hank Tank — all fitting for the sweetest, most stubborn golden boy around. If Henry wants something, you’ll know. But if you meet him? He’ll love you instantly. 💛

Happy December, Henry! Thanks for bringing the festive golden glow to EPHC this month. 🎄🐾✨

🍗 Here’s a special reminder that we will be closed tomorrow for Thanksgiving! We hope you have a wonderful time with friends, family and your beloved pets! We will resume normal business hours on Friday. Please remember to avoid feeding your pets turkey bones, turkey skin and anything with raisins, onions, garlic, Xylitol or heavy amounts of dairy in it! So….just about everything!! 🐾🍗🐾

🏨🩺 Behind the Scenes! Episode #2

At EPHC we are PROUD to be INDEPENDENTLY OWNED for over 34 years! 🎉 Dr. Lisa Carpenter built this little clinic from the ground up in 1991 and in 2020, ownership was proudly passed on to Dr. Andi Nelson.

But did you know that privately owned veterinary clinics are becoming fewer and farther between? Per an AVMA study, at least 25% of general practices and 75% of specialty practices are now corporate-owned. Astoundingly, they estimate that corporate consolidators "control around 50% of all US veterinary hospital revenue." And according to sources cited by the American Animal Hospital Association, fewer than 15% of corporations put their brand on the practices they buy, resulting in unsuspecting pet owners thinking they are still doing business with independent clinics.

This day and age, it is nearly impossible to know if a veterinary clinic is privately or corporate-owned just by looking at it. And their websites may or may not help in revealing this. The best way to know for sure is to simply call your veterinary clinic and ask. You might be surprised by the answer!

There are some pretty big and even unexpected names when it comes to corporate ownership. While well-known for their candy, Mars Incorporated has a division called Mars Veterinary Health that owns thousands of veterinary clinics across the globe. And large retail chains such as Walmart and Chewy now provide one-stop-shop veterinary services in certain areas of the country.

Lastly, there are numerous Private Equity groups on the rise that are buying up independent clinics all over the US. They are constantly knocking on the doors of privately owned practices as their acquisitions continue. In fact, they reach out to our clinic countless times per year. But each time they are met with a resounding NO.

We are putting the spotlight on this subject to let you know how hard we work behind the scenes to remain privately owned in a world where it is ever more difficult to do so. In the end, small clinics like ours cannot always compete with these corporate entities and often end up selling out to these same groups. So supporting your small local clinics (and knowing who they are!) is the best way to help keep their doors open and in private hands. 🩵 To learn more about how corporatization is impacting independent vet clinics, please click on the link below.

🎉🐾 November’s Pet of the Month is here, and he’s barking up a storm (literally)! Say hello to Pluto the Pom! 🐶🍁

This two-year-old Pomeranian is bursting with personality, quirks, and just the right amount of s***k. Named by his foster (which just so happened to be perfect for this Disney-loving family 💛🐭), Pluto quickly became the center of attention and the king of cozy chaos.

👟❄️ Whether he’s taking leafy fall strolls, zooming through snowflakes, or curling up for long naps with his humans, this little guy knows how to keep things cute and interesting. Just don’t forget to double-check his harness—because if he escapes? It’s game ON. 😅 One adventurous evening walk turned into a full-blown Pluto Chase Mission—featuring Mom, Dad, two police officers, and over an hour of running. But was Pluto worried? Not at all. He was living his best life. 😎

📸 This little dude’s got the best head tilts in the biz and knows how to strike a pose like it’s his job. He has two identical water bowls but insists on testing them both every time before committing to a sip (hydration snob much? 💦😂), and sometimes he skips the bowl altogether and drinks from water bottles like a pro. Fancy. Oh—and fetch? He plays it solo. Runs to the top of the stairs, drops the ball, chases it down, then zooms back up to start all over again. A one-dog party.

🛏️ Pluto’s also a big fan of sleeping in. When Mom’s alarm goes off, he’ll bark at her… only to go right back to bed. If he had it his way, mornings would be canceled. .

💬 Nickname? Just one. “Pluto Boy.” Because honestly, what else do you need when your energy is already ✨star-level✨?

From daily giggles to full-on toddler-level antics, Pluto has added spice, joy, and so much heart to his family’s life. We are so excited to celebrate him as our November star!
