The other day, I watched my husband treat a stranger with compassion and dignity, and in that moment, the heaviness I had been carrying lifted.

Science shows why: acts of kindness activate the vagus nerve, lowering stress and releasing oxytocin, the hormone that builds connection and calm.

Scripture already told us this: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35)

Compassion doesn’t just change the one receiving it. It heals the one giving it and even those watching.

It wasn’t a grand gesture.
Just a quiet afternoon by the water
Soaking in the beauty of her life and mine
Grateful

Letting the rhythm of the waves remind me
This is what joy feels like when you stop trying to earn it

For a long time, I thought joy came after I got it together
After the checklist
After the healing
After everyone else’s needs were met

But what I’ve learned—and what I teach now—is this:
Joy is a rhythm you return to
A space you create
A gift you receive

This wasn’t just a home renovation.
It was a complete transformation. Inside the walls… and inside of me.

We took on this hoarder house, our first mobile home flip, and it was rough:
- Human f***s on the floor
- Rotting food in every room
- Drug paraphernalia scattered everywhere

We wore masks just to breathe. I’d feel sick after every visit.
But I stayed.

Not just because I believed in the house,
But because I was rebuilding something in myself, too.

During those two months of hard renovation work, I was learning what it meant to:
• Slow down
• Listen to my body
• Choose anchored joy. Not the surface kind, but the kind that survives the mess.

We finished the renovation.
The house sold the first weekend.

We even accepted a lower offer from someone going through a divorce because helping people is why we do this.

But what I gained was more than a sale.
I gained the rhythms that healed me.

And now, I want to share them with you.
