Dartmouth Cancer Center Bennington is proud to support Multiple Myeloma Action Month.

Patient members of our local Multiple Myeloma Support group shared an Action Month Proclamation with our center, advanced at the Vermont State House by Rep. Mary Morrissey, and signed by Governor Phil Scott.

Multiple myeloma blood cancer is reported to affect more than 176,000 people worldwide each year. However, this number likely underestimates the true impact of the disease. In many parts of the world, myeloma is under-diagnosed or not consistently reported.
Every March, people around the world come together for Myeloma Action Month to raise awareness, inspire action, and amplify the voices of those impacted by multiple myeloma.

Pictured are patient members of our local support group along with Dr. Matthew Vernon, Medical Director of the DCC Bennington and Dr. James Kalmuk, DCC medical oncologist. They are also standing beside a sculpture created by artist Jay Martin Bopp, representing his journey with myeloma.

“Seeing that our care results in improved lives of our patients is the key reward of a career in medicine. Whenever someone goes out of their way to express their appreciation and gratitude of the care they received, it reminds me that we are, truly, making a difference.” – David Furman, MD

Starting Wednesday, March 18, you'll notice some construction underway on our main Bennington campus, leading to a few changes to patient parking and access.

On March 18, the front entrance to the Dartmouth Cancer Center Bennington will close and remain closed for the next year, allowing for the first phase of renovation and construction of the Hoyt-Hunter Center for Oncology Care.

Here's what will be different, starting on March 18:
▶️ The roadway in front of the cancer center will be closed to traffic. Patients and visitors will still have access to CLR and the Medical Office Building (MOB) North entrance, but will be directed to drive around the construction site.
▶️ Cancer Center patients will park in P3 and use Medical Office Building (MOB) South to access the center. This parking area is across from our main entrance.
▶️ Designated parking will be marked for cancer center patients in P3. This includes additional handicap accessible spaces.
▶️ Signage will be posted throughout the exterior and interior of the building to guide patients.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during this exciting and important project!

Members of SVMC’s Advanced Practice Provider leadership, along with physicians and staff, joined together with the family of pediatrics provider Emily Rice, MPAS, PA-C, to honor her memory in a way that truly reflects who she was.

Emily passed away unexpectedly last month, leaving behind a community of patients, families, and colleagues who loved her deeply. She was not only a compassionate and dedicated provider, but also a talented artist whose creativity brought joy to so many.

Volunteers assembled special Remembrance Packets for Emily’s patients. They were joined by Emily’s husband and children. Each packet includes coloring books featuring Emily’s original artwork, along with fun items for her patients to enjoy — a small but meaningful way to celebrate the warmth, imagination, and kindness she shared so freely.

Thank to the providers and staff who made donations to make the packets possible.
