Thank you to our amazing local sponsors who support us each and every year! These companies help us put together an amazing raffle that brings in a lot of money for our Foundation and give us fun door prizes that we bring out to golfers while they are playing!
Special shout outs go to Johnny Russell with Warm Springs Golf Course Boise Idaho for providing a golf course for us every single May for all 39 years our tournament has been around, Dan Ansogegui with Ansots Basque Chorizos for donating (and cooking!) the best breakfast food known to man, and Lou Aaron with Westside Drive-in for always providing an incredible luncheon for us every year!
We love to support these businesses right back so if you haven’t given them your time in a while please go check them out!

Ayla Ambriz
2024

Ayla has been battling ALL, a form of leukemia, since January of 2024. While Ayla may be soft-spoken and shy when you meet her, her true colors quickly come out! She has a real witchy, spooky vibe going on! She loves Goth culture and enjoys movies and shows like Beetlejuice and Hocus Pocus. An avid Harry Potter fan, Ayla is convinced the Sorting Hat got it wrong and that she is a true Slytherin at heart!

On the day of her tournament, we got to meet a lot of Ayla’s cheer squad! At the top of that list were her mom and dad (Amber and Aaron) and her little sister Kaia. While treatment may have left Ayla without hair on the day we met her, that did not stop her from showing up with a fabulous silver wig and deep blue tail to boot! A highlight of Ayla’s tournament day was heading immediately to Build-a-Bear from the golf course to use the generous donation we receive every year from them!

Because of The Friendship Foundation’s gifts Amber has been able to stay at home full-time. Ayla was also able to purchase a gaming computer and desk for her room which helps her stay connected to friends! Once chemo treatments are done next year there are plans in the works to head to Disney World to celebrate.

One day left! For our last day of the countdown we induct our 2024 recipient Ayla Ambriz into our hall of fame! Ayla has been battling ALL since January 2024.

On the day of her tournament we got to meet a lot of Ayla’s cheer squad! At the top of that list were her parents, Amber and Aaron, and her little sister, Kaia. A highlight of Ayla’s tournament day was heading straight to Build-a-Bear from the golf course to use the generous donation we receive from them every year.

The Friendship Foundation and Golf Scramble was able to donate $5,000 to St. Luke’s Children’s Cancer Institute which went to funding research for portable chemo pumps allowing children like Ayla to continue on with daily life instead of requiring long term hospitalization for continuous chemo.

Ayla has had several recent complications from treatment that has required some hospital stays. She has started feeling more like herself recently (just in time for her 13th birthday!). The money Ayla received from the tournament helped Amber stay at home full-time for the past year. Ayla was able to purchase a new gaming computer and desk for her room. After treatment is scheduled to finish up next year there are plans in the works to take a trip to Disney World!

We are down to two days! Today we honor and remember Sicilee Winn, recipient in 2023. Sicilee was a complete ball of energy and good vibes! Her family and friends fondly call her “Goose” because Gabby, Sicilee’s mom, always found that Sicilee acted like such a ‘silly goose’. She had a mind of her own and let everyone know that she was going to have it her way or no way. If you didn’t get on board quick, she was the queen of a good side eye and wouldn’t hesitate to give it to you!

We were lucky enough to see this sassy side of Sicilee on the day of her tournament! It was very apparent when she wanted out of the golf cart so she could explore. When a golfer attempted to show her his golf club, she promptly took the club right out of his hands to play with! Sicilee also showed us a very sweet and loving side of her personality cuddling her mom and giving kisses and hugs to her dad and siblings.

Sicilee was in remission at the time of her tournament, but cancer returned to her spine fall of 2023 and there wasn’t enough time for treatment to be effective. She was surrounded by loving family and friends including both her parents when she passed.

Several Friendship Foundation board members were able to attend Sicilee’s celebration of life. It was truly an honor to know and recognize a girl who touched so many lives in such an impactful way.

We still stay in touch with Gabby and her wonderful memories of Sicilee always bring tears to our eyes!

Three days to go! Today we remember Ziyah Lucius, recipient in 2022. Ziyah is the third child in a large family of five! This family is a powerhouse! They went everywhere with Ziyah: out onto the golf course, riding around in carts, and getting matching temporary tattoos! Ziyah was battling a brain tumor called DIPG and valiantly gave her all at the tournament. When she did get too tired there were plenty of volunteers willing to hold her! Ziyah willingly went into their arms and relaxed her entire body weight into them…just happy to have a place to relax after such a busy day!

Ziyah loved to dance and found every excuse to do so! She adored the movie Frozen and even dressed as Elsa for Halloween in 2022. Ziyah found the greatest joy in life when she was able to just relax and spend time with her family members.

Ziyah passed suddenly while in California for treatment. She was with the people she loved most including her mom, Camellia, her dad, Shelby, and her baby sister. A few members of The Friendship Foundation board were lucky to attend Ziyah’s Celebration of Life and took home some Forget Me Not flowers to grow in memory of Ziyah and a pin that sits with memorabilia from The Friendship Foundation. She is missed by all who knew her. The Lucius family celebrates each day as one day closer to seeing Ziyah again.

Four days until we welcome you to The 39th Annual Friendship Scramble! Today we celebrate Rio Atagi, recipient in 2021! On the day of his tournament, Rio was battling cancer and we were warned that he was experiencing low energy frequently. However, Rio came with some unexpected vigor and ran around the golf course with his little brother. A few were lucky to witness this sweet boy dancing around and digging in a sand pit. We consider it a great success that Rio expended all his energy on the course that day!

Rio had a relapse in 2024 but is currently in remission! Go Rio! He started his own charity called “Rio Giving Games” and donates Nintendo switches to children in the hospital to help fight boredom and distract from the pain procedures can cause. Rio and his family plan to visit the Nintendo museum in Japan this year for his birthday!
