Stretching your neck might be making your symptoms worse 👀

Yes, stretching your neck when it feels tight and stiff may make it feel better for like a minute, but sometimes stretching can actually prolong your symptoms. Muscles often feel tight because they are either protecting something or they are weak and spasming because YOUR HEAD IS HEAVY!

Try this instead: Fix your posture from the bottom up. Rock your hips so you’re sitting evenly on your sit bones. Align your shoulders over your hips. Align your ears over your shoulders. If you’re at work, move your keyboard so your upper arms are at your sides. This places your head and shoulders over your center of mass and reduces pull on your neck muscles.

BONUS: Do a shoulder “BOX” by moving both shoulders forward, up, up/back and then down/back. Do 3-5 rounds of them then find somewhere on the bottom of this “box” that feels comfortable and natural. Take a few slow deep breaths as you do this.

If these tips don’t help within a few days or you want relief NOW, DM me and we can put out the fire with some dry needling and figure out WHY your neck is so tight and give you things specially tailored to you for lasting relief.

Does this feel weak, weak and painful, or just painful?

If it’s just painful and you still have power, those are cases that make me drool 🤤 because most likely your tissues are intact - they’re just angry and need to be calmed and re-trained. 💪 If it’s the other two options, still come in and let me take a look, and I can help you determine if an MRI is actually necessary. Save this and DM me ‘SHOULDER’ if pain is slowing you down.

If you’ve already tried the more traditional tennis elbow (lateral epicondylalgia) “cures”, consider looking ABOVE your elbow and getting into your triceps. I find a lot of restrictions there when I’m working on my clients, and using a barbell collar is a great way to find those sticky bits and get after them! If you’ve done this and all the other things, but haven’t seen me - this is your sign! DM me ELBOW and I’ll help you get over it before golf and tennis season!
