“When can I actually get pregnant?”

This is one of the most common questions we hear.

And also one of the most misunderstood.

Most women who are trying to conceive think one of two things:

1️⃣ You can get pregnant any day of your cycle
2️⃣ You can ONLY get pregnant on the day you ovulate

Both of those miss the mark.

Pregnancy doesn’t happen on a single day.

And it also doesn’t happen randomly.

Your body works within a roughly 6-day fertile window.

You are most likely to conceive when you have s*x during the 5 days leading up to ovulation, the day of ovulation, and even the day after.

Why?

🥚 S***m can survive in the reproductive tract for up to 5 days, while the egg is only viable for 12–24 hours after ovulation.

Understanding that window can completely change how you approach timing, stress, and expectations when trying to conceive.

If you’ve been struggling to conceive, or you want support that looks at fertility through a root-cause, whole-body lens, this is exactly the work we do inside our 1:1 work

Here’s what I recommend tracking 👇🏼

Basal body temperature 🌡

BBT is your temperature first thing in the morning, before you get out of bed.

Tracking it over time shows whether ovulation is happening and how progesterone is supporting your cycle after.

It’s one of the simplest ways to understand what your hormones are actually doing.

How to track it:
1. Use a basal thermometer that reads to the second decimal (ex: 96.74, not 96.7)
2. Take your temp immediately upon waking
3. For the most accurate reading, place the thermometer in your mouth and let it sit for about 5 minutes before pressing start

What you’ll notice over time 👇🏼

✨ A small dip may happen right before ovulation
✨ After ovulation, temps rise as progesterone rises (about 0.5–1.0°F)
✨ When temps stay elevated for several days, ovulation has occurred

If you’re tracking and noticing ovulation feels inconsistent, or you’re not seeing a clear temperature shift, that’s often a sign your body needs more support.

If you want guidance on how to support your hormones through each phase of your cycle using nutrition, movement, and lifestyle shifts, our cycle syncing guide walks you through exactly that.

Most women are taught to care about ovulation only if they’re trying to get pregnant.

That’s a mistake 🫠

Ovulation is one of the clearest signals of overall hormone health.

When it’s happening regularly, your body is producing progesterone. And progesterone affects way more than fertility.

✅ It influences how you sleep.
✅ How you handle stress.
✅ How stable your mood feels.
✅ How your metabolism and blood sugar respond.

When ovulation isn’t happening consistently, symptoms usually show up long before a diagnosis ever does.

That’s why we pay attention to it in functional medicine! 👏🏼

Your cycle is giving you data every single month.
