On Aug. 6, The Nickerson Family officially became a party of three after finalizing their adoption of 13-year-old Landon after 446 days in foster care.

Mom and Dad Nickerson have been fostering with StepStone for 19 years, and in that time, they've lovingly taken care of many teenage boys. Landon, who they describe as the "sweetest, smartest, most loving, caring and compassionate young man," came to them last year in May.

But the Nickersons say they aren't ready to end this amazing, 19-year journey yet. They're currently in the process of adopting another son, Austin.

Every child deserves a safe, loving, and permanent home. Today, on National Adoption Day, we celebrate the lives that have been forever changed through family, hope, and care. 💙

So far in 2025, StepStone Family & Youth Services has helped make 140 adoptions possible, with each one representing a new beginning and a brighter future.

But our impact doesn’t stop there. Year to date, 85% of children and youth in our care have achieved positive outcomes, including adoptions, reunifications, and placements with relatives, exceeding the national benchmark of 74%. That’s 559 children and youth finding stability, safety, and connection this year alone.

At StepStone, we believe that every child’s story deserves a happy chapter, and we’re honored to play a part in helping so many find theirs.
