This truly is food for thought: did you know that nearly 90% of older adults in the U.S. report having one or more chronic conditions, according to the CDC? This statistic highlights a growing concern for our aging population.

What’s even more eye-opening is that many of these chronic conditions are influenced by modifiable lifestyle risk factors, such as excessive alcohol consumption, to***co use, physical inactivity, and poor nutrition. Making conscious changes in these areas can significantly enhance our quality of life.

As we reflect on our health journey, consider this: how do you envision spending the later years of your life? Will you prioritize your well-being and embrace a healthier lifestyle, or will you let preventable conditions dictate your experience?

Stay tuned for more information about proven preventive programs designed to improve health outcomes. Together, we can make informed choices that empower us to live our best lives as we age!

Nutrition may be an important modifiable risk factor in the strategy to prevent or delay the onset of dementia and other forms of cognitive decline. Previous research emphasized the role of individual nutrients, but recent years have seen a shift to eating patterns.

It’s fair to say that the past couple of years have been rough for everyone. In a time where it seems like there may be no end to our struggles as a society, it is imperative that we find ways to take care of our mental health. It can be easy to wake up and feel overwhelmed by everything that is happening around the world. Adopting mindful practices, however, can assist us with slowing down everything, having a positive outlook on life, and truly enjoying every moment.

Although mindfulness and wellness practices differ for every person, there are practices that are beneficial to everyone! These practices are important in finding motivation, living in the moment, and changing your mindset.

In lieu of starting off the new year right, it’s important that we take care of our bodies the best that we can! Part of taking care of our bodies includes getting exercise daily and ensuring that we’re eating the right things. You may be wondering what qualifies as the “right things.” According to WebMd, there are three macronutrients that are essential for our diet: protein, fat, and carbohydrates. Each of these macronutrients play important roles in our health, but also play significant roles in performing bodily functions. In addition to ensuring that you eat enough of these macronutrients, you should also be considerate of their sources. To read more about macronutrients and good sources of them, check out this article from WebMD!

Macronutrients: What They Are, and Why They're Important (webmd.com)

It is also important to consider that the amounts of macronutrients vary for different goals! Refer to the pie chart below to see which splits fit your goals.

What is the meaning of the Juneteenth flag?

You'll see that the Juneteenth flag uses the exact same colors as the United States's flag: red, white, and blue. This was intentional and meant to show that the formerly enslaved and their descendants are free Americans, too.

The Arc: A new horizon, meaning fresh opportunities and promising futures for Black Americans

The Star: Not only is it a nod to the Lone Star State (where Juneteenth was first celebrated in 1865), but it also stands for the freedom of every Black American in all 50 states

The Burst: The outline surrounding the star is meant to reflect a nova— or new star—which represents a new beginning for all
And in 2007, the date of the first Juneteenth (June 19, 1865) was added to the flag.
